Athleta Store Opening Soon in Montclair

Athleta is branching out to Upper Montclair. The brand known for its premium performance apparel for women and girls will open a new store at 629 Valley Road, taking over Gap’s former location, on November 11th. This will be Athleta’s 14th location in New Jersey. The other locations include Bridgewater, Cherry Hill, Edgewater, Hoboken, Marlton, Morristown, Paramus, Princeton, Sea Girt, Shrewsbury, Wayne, Westfield, and Woodcliff Lake. Van Vleck House to Host Good Grows Here Event in Montclair

The Montclair Foundation has announced a Good Grows Here event to take place at the Van Vleck House in Montclair. The post said, “Our annual event, ushering in the holidays, will be here soon, and it will be filled with celebrating gratitude + gatherings in a variety of fun events. Although autumn may seem like a slower growing season in the garden, there is a lot of good percolating at Van Vleck. So come join us as we celebrate together with a variety of events planned for everyone to gather, celebrate and show our gratitude.” Events will run from Thursday, November 18th to Sunday, November 21st and feature decorating activities, a special luncheon, holiday shopping, and a family day.


Out Montclair to Host Wine + Cheese Night

On Friday, November 12th Out Montclair will host a wine and cheese reception before a performance of Next to Normal. The event will take place at the Vanguard Theater located at 180 Bloomfield Avenue in Montclair. Tickets are on sale now, for 21+ only.


Summit Health Opens New Medical Hub in Montclair

On Wednesday, November 10th, Summit Health will officially open a new medical hub to better serve the local community, according to a press release. Located on the sixth and seventh floors of the new Wellmont Arts Plaza development on Seymour and Bloomfield Streets, the modern 30,000-square-foot health care hub will offer primary and specialty care for adults and children.


Butler + the Board Charcuterie Opening This Month in Montclair

The small-batch charcuterie known as Butler + the Board Charcuterie, from Chef Jeff Butler, has gone from an online shop to an in-person outpost located at 103 Forest Street in Montclair. The shop has been under construction over the summer but Chef Butler is ready to open its doors in two weeks. Click here to read more about the shop.


Bobbi Brown to Open Jones Road Flagship Store in Montclair

Beauty icon, serial entrepreneur, author, health coach, and Montclair resident for the last 30 years – the one and only Bobbi Brown has exciting news for New Jersey: Jones Road is getting a storefront in Montclair. Bobbi’s pandemic-born beauty line, which has gained quite a following over the past year, is opening a brick-and-mortar boutique in the heart of Montclair at 111 Grove Street, on the corner of Walnut and Grove Streets. Montclair Film to Reopen Clairidge Cinemas This Week

Montclair Film announced on June 21st that it had signed a multi-year lease to re-open and operate Clairidge Cinemas, located at 486 Bloomfield Avenue, as a six-screen art-house theater with renovations beginning immediately and scheduled to be completed by October 2021.  The Cinema officially reopened on November 5th and will be showing some of 2021’s most anticipated films. New Contemporary Art Gallery Opening in Millburn

Not long after World of 5 D art gallery opened in Montclair, Millburn is getting a brand new art gallery of its own. The J Núñez Gallery is owned by none other than well-known international chef and visual artist Jesús Núñez. The new gallery features original abstract paintings made from high-quality materials that complement a wide range of tastes and styles that are one-of-a-kind. 8 New Eateries to Debut at Newark’s Gateway Center Plaza

Onyx Equities recently announced the eight eateries that will move into Gateway Center Plaza’s new dining area next year, according to NJ.com. The Junction will be a 100,000-square-foot dining and retail area near the front of Gateway Center. The new development is also intended to bring jobs to Newark.   


Beloved Montclair Pizzeria Closing Doors for Remainder of 2021

Local pizza shop, Bivio Pizza Napoletana announced this week it will be closing until the new year, as owner Tomasso Colao recovers from surgery. Colao stated that this will ensure he fully heals before going back to work, and it will be a “well-deserved break” after the four years the restaurant has been open. 


DeCamp Expands Bus Routes into NYC Starting This Month

Since Monday, November 1st, DeCamp Bus Lines has added more commuter routes to and from New York City, per Baristanet. This includes additional mid-day, weekday, and weekend routes that can be found on the DeCamp website. 


NJ Children Ages 5-11 Can Now Receive COVID-19 Vaccination

The Food and Drug Administration and Center for Disease Control recently recommended a smaller dose of the Pfizer vaccine for children ages 5-11, per NJ.com. This vaccine will contain one-third of the typical adult dose, and be administered with a smaller needle for children.  The state ordered 203,800 vaccines, which will be offered at 203 locations across all New Jersey counties.


Trustees Continue to Discuss Montclair Library Funding Proposal

After the town council meeting on Monday, November 1st, the Montclair Public Library Board of Trustees issued a statement regarding a proposed funding agreement, reported Patch. The Board said that they have not yet had time to come to a “collective agreement” on the six-year proposed term from the town. 


Author of ‘Wimpy Kid’ Jeff Kinney Hosted Book Signing in Montclair

Jeff Kinney hosted a book signing at Watchung Booksellers on Saturday, November 6th, according to NorthJersey.com. The event was a “drive-through sports-themed party” where the attendants got to participate in activities related to Kinney’s latest release, “Diary of a Wimpy Kid #16: Big Shot.”


Bloomfield Welcomes New Urgent Care Center

Level Up MD Urgent Care just opened its doors in Bloomfield, per Patch. The “one-stop medical facility” is located at The Shops at Bloomfield Station, 322 Glenwood Avenue. The Bloomfield Center Alliance welcomed Level Up at a grand opening ceremony last month. 


Woman’s Club of Upper Montclair Celebrates “120+1” Birthday

The Woman’s Club of Upper Montclair celebrated its birthday a year later than anticipated after the COVID-19 pandemic, according to Montclair Local. Last year marked the 120th anniversary of this community support organization for women. Last year’s postponed celebration occurred last month, which the mayor, town officials, and descendants of the club’s founder attended.


Applications Open for Impact100 Essex Equity Grants

Impact100 Essex is currently accepting applications for itsnew equity grants, according to Tap Into. Nonprofit businesses owned by Black, Indigenous, or other People of Color qualify to apply for the three $15,000 grants available. Committee members expressed the importance of creating greater funding equality for local organizations. 


Newark Airport Rail System to Undergo $250K for Accessibility Renovations

The Newark Airport rail system will undergo $250,000 worth of renovations to improve accessibility, per NJ.com. The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey came to this agreement after the rail system failed to meet standards from the Americans with Disabilities Act.


Activists Hold Rally for Climate Crisis in Montclair

Activists rallied together on Saturday, November 6th, for climate change, per Montclair Local. Participants at the event called on world leaders to take action regarding the climate crisis. The rally started at 10:30AM at Seymour Plaza on Bloomfield Avenue.


 Essex County Health Workers Honored at Italian American Heritage Celebration

Judy Persichilli and Frank Del Gaudio were named Stars of Essex County at the Italian American Heritage Celebration on Thursday, October 28th, reported Essex News Daily. Both honorees are healthcare workers that “each have made an impact on their communities and have continuously improved the quality of life for our residents,” according to Essex County Executive Joseph N. DiVincenzo. “Our celebration is an opportunity to recognize the contributions that Italian Americans have made to the history and culture of Essex County.” The event took place at the Martin Luther King Jr. Justice Building.


Gladys Barker Grauer Honored at Upcoming Legacy Art Auction in Newark

Gallery Aferro is hosting an in-person art auction and celebration of artist Gladys Barker Grauer, according to New Jersey Stage. The gallery will present “Before The Wave: Celebrating the Gladys Barker Grauer Legacy,” which will honor the life and legacy of “The Mother of Newark Arts” as a “rule breaker and trailblazer.” Twenty of Grauer’s works will be on display, and works inspired and influenced by her will be included in the auction. Tickets for the event are $20 and will take place at Gallery Aferro on Saturday, November 6th from 7 PM to 10 PM.


Essex County Accepting Applications for Rental Assistance

Essex County is accepting applications for the 2021 Essex County Emergency Rental Assistance Program, per Essex News Daily. Grants are awarded on a first-come, first-serve basis to renters and landlords that were negatively impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. Applications can be filled out online.
