Art lovers, rejoice! World of 5D, a new contemporary art gallery, and shop located at 2 Church Street has opened in Montclair. The locally-owned business curates art that depicts cultural icons, from actresses to athletes, that are created in a 5D approach. Read on to learn more about the owners of World of 5D gallery and what to expect when you visit this new Montclair gem.

The Background

The owners are a group of old friends who grew up together in the Essex County area who have known each other since they were kids. “With an interest in art, culture, photography, visual design, and science we decided to come together and open up an art gallery unlike any other,” says Michael D’Elia, one of the two owners that are at the forefront of running the gallery, along with Sam Zamloot.

“We are from all parts of Essex County, including Montclair, West Orange, Newark, Nutley, and Bellevue. We are so happy to be able to open up a new business right where we call home,” says Mike.

“Montclair is a diverse neighborhood and extremely multicultural. The people of Montclair share our love for artistic culture. The town is already home to various art museums, galleries, graffiti-painted walls, etc., so we felt that we would fit right in. The town is also amazing as far as its support for small businesses and pushes to shop local, Mike shared.

The name “World of 5D” came about when the owners saw the new printing technology by Tridelix for the first time. The newest printing technology, developed by scientists and art enthusiasts (and good friends of the owners) Keng Lau is the only one of its kind. “A flat image becomes an optical illusion that appears to allow you to reach your hand right into the picture. The picture appears to have the depth to it, although it is completely flat. We decided to refer to this ‘illusion’ as 5 dimensional and so we named the store that we would be selling these images, “World of 5D,” explained Mike.

What to Expect

“We curate our exclusive “5D” printed images which we also describe using the French word “Giclee” which refers to a technology for fine art or photograph,” Mike told us. The gallery and shop will also sell collages, oil paintings, recently made sketches and canvas paintings by local artists, and regular printed images.

The gallery’s inventory includes a variety of images including musical icons, professional athletes/teams, actors/actresses, famous landmarks, nature, and more.

World of 5D plans to host events with local artists partaking in live painting for guests to enjoy.

The gallery is open Tuesday – Saturday from 11AM-8PM, Sunday 11AM-6PM, and is closed on Monday.
