Read on to learn more about Marissa Herrmann and her new Move House Fitness Studio in Montclair, New Jersey.
About Marissa
Move House Fit founder Marissa Herrman is originally from Cedar Grove and now lives in Hoboken. She spent a lot of time in Montclair as a child, then as a student and young adult attending Montclair State University, where she majored in competitive dance. She loved the small-town feel and urban vibes of Montclair and always thought that somehow she would end up coming back to the area.
During college, Marissa became a certified barre instructor which led to her teaching fitness in addition to teaching dance after she graduated in 2019. Graduating college and entering the real world into the throws of COVID was an actual blessing, in her view. The idea of helping people stay fit during a challenging time was a great source of inspiration.

Marissa expanded her certifications by adding pre and post-natal certified fitness instructor to her resume and worked with private clients in person and via Zoom. In 2023, she began to provide pop-up classes in Hoboken. Marissa also started to work with brides, helping them become a stronger version of themselves in preparation for the big day and their married lives beyond.
Opening Move House
Marissa’s full circle moment came when she saw a small storefront for rent in Montclair, next to The Bellevue Theatre, the exact theater she always went to as a child. She knew it was meant to be and took the plunge towards opening her own fitness studio.
Move House is representative of Marissa’s competitive dancing career combined with her love of fitness and the positive effects it has on one’s mental well-being. We asked Marissa how she came up with the unique name Move House. “I wanted a name that was not about me but about the community. Move House just came to me and what is ironic is that it is my initials!”
Move House Fit is an inclusive, inviting space that welcomes clients to have fun during workouts instead of it feeling like a chore. The goal is to always leave as a more confident version of one’s self after class is over. “Our mission at Move House is to create an inclusive, community-based workout that builds confidence while inspiring and challenging the mind and body,” she told The Montclair Girl.
Move House provides two group classes.
Sculpt — a low-impact, high-energy 50-minute class, which combines barre and pilates with a fun dance vibe.
Barre — which is also low-impact, high-energy, and 50 minutes, focusing on lengthening the muscles and having fun.
Move House On Demand Classes “Bringing Move House to your own home,” are classes that are available through the Move House website here and provide a range of sessions. There are quickies that go from 7 to 27 minutes long. Fifty-minute classes are also to be had, which allows everyone to find their perfect fit in the privacy of their own home.
Personal training is also provided in person or via Zoom.
