As the echoes of 2023’s business evolution resonate through the streets of Essex County — welcoming newcomers and bidding farewell to former businesses — 2024 welcomes new ventures for a further transformation. From eateries to boutiques to fitness centers, Essex County will welcome a wave of new businesses in the upcoming months. New Jersey-based burrito chain Bubbakoo’s Burritos will open a Newark location in early 2024 at 48 New Street, joining over 40 other locations in New Jersey. The chain was founded to honor New Jersey’s skater and surfer culture in 2008.

Dan + Day’s | 598 Valley Road, Montclair

A new addition to Montclair’s food scene is on the way from a familiar face. Dan and Dayanna Campeas are the husband and wife team behind Stuffed Grassfed Burgers and are now pivoting their energies into a new venture called Dan + Day’s Burgers and Shakes. The new spot will keep 75% of the menu from Stuffed Grassfed Burgers, especially the burgers, but also introduce something sweeter, such as a variety of milkshakes with 12 flavors available to choose from.

Delta’s Restaurant will open in a historic building located at 810 Broad Street, according to Jersey Digs. Delta’s is based in New Brunswick and is known for its Southern-style menu.

Fatto Con Amore | 349 Bloomfield Avenue, Montclair

Fatto Con Amore is a new sandwich shop from Chef Robbie Felice, who also opened Pasta Ramen alongside Montclair Hospitality Group. The name means ‘made with love’ in Italian, and the shop will serve up specialty Italian meats + artisan cheeses on custom-made breads as well as imported pantry goods, cured meats, and cheeses. Fatto Con Amore’s opening was originally slated for fall 2023.

The Hudson Rose | 238 Franklin Avenue, Nutley

The Hudson Rose — a new restaurant and banquet space — is coming to the former Franklin Steakhouse location in Nutley. The inspiration behind the new eatery comes from restaurants in New York City like The Smith, so guests can expect a notable burger and french fries. In addition to the dining experience, there will be a banquet space where guests can have private parties and events. Brian Neiman and his father-in-law Bruce Fischer of GAC Hospitality took over the space in Feburary 2022.

The Juice House | 10 North Willow Street, Montclair

With other locations in Garwood, New Providence, Union, and Freehold, The Juice House is slated to open its fifth New Jersey location in Montclair this year. The juice, smoothie, and bowl eatery recently put up signage at its North Willow Street storefront. The Juice House was founded by Arielle Cassidy, MSN, who opened up its first location in 2014 at only 22 years old to share her love and passion for nutrition.

A new cookie cafe and cereal bar is slated to open at 43 Church Street, serving stuffed cookies, milkshakes, ice cream, and other dessert vehicles for cereal. Milk N Cookies first opened in 2018 as a way to bring family and friends together over unique and decadent desserts, and since then, has garnered quite a fan base, with three locations along the East Coast. The first Garden State outpost for Milk N Cookies is a kiosk in the Willowbrook Mall.

 

 

Montclair Meats | 151 Valley Road, Montclair

Montclair is welcoming a  custom whole animal butcher shop called ‘Montclair Meats’ at 151 Valley Road in February. The shop serves ethically sourced meats, focusing on whole-animal butchery to support local farms and promote sustainability within the community. Operated by New Jersey native Steven Kim, Montclair Meats serves a variety of raw meats, specialty salts, rubs, sides, prepared food options, and eventually, private dinners and educational workshops on butchery, sausage making, and charcuterie.

Papaya Organic Juice Bar | 131 Pine Street, Montclair

Papaya Organic Juice Bar is joining the Montclair wellness scene at 131 Pine Street. Owner Ximena Sofia Bravo has big plans for the little building, which is a former contractor’s office. Anticipating a spring opening, Papaya Organic Juice Bar seeks to promote a healthy lifestyle within the Montclair community through a variety of locally sourced and organic options.

The DRIP | 333 Bloomfield Avenue, Caldwell

The DRIP, a fitness establishment known for its holistic approach to workouts, has expanded to a second location at 333 Bloomfield Avenue in Caldwell, New Jersey. The three-story flagship location at 44 Hudson Place in Hoboken has gained popularity for its unique fitness services and community-oriented approach. The fitness establishment provides both virtual and in-studio fitness opportunities encompassing strength, cycling, boxing, yoga, dance, barre, pilates, and private training. Co-founders of The DRIP, Olivia LaCaruba, and Samantha Green, opened a second location in Caldwell, New Jersey earlier this month.
