A Jersey City-based boutique fitness studio is making its way to Montclair. Founded by soon-to-be Montclair resident, Kyra Huxel, MEGA group-style fitness classes are centered around the Lagree Method, a high-intensity, low-impact, core-focused, workout. MEGA’s second New Jersey studio is set to open at 172 Glenridge Avenue this fall, pending equipment arrivals. Read on for what we know about MEGA, the newest fitness studio to arrive in Montclair.
About MEGA
Kyra Huxel first opened MEGA Jersey City in 2021. When opening, Kyra shared with our sister site, The Hoboken Girl, that MEGA’s group-style workouts are centered on the Lagree Method, “a high intensity, low impact, core-focused, muscular endurance, and strength training workout.” She shared: “It’s a true total body workout meant to give you all the components of physical fitness: cardiovascular endurance, muscular strength, muscular endurance, flexibility, body composition, and dynamic core stability training.”

A typical class consists of spending half the time on a treadmill and half the time on the Megaformer. MEGA is bringing “two of the world’s most advanced machines” to the new Montclair studio: the Lagree EVO Megaformer and the Technogym Skillrun 5000 treadmill, a luxury treadmill that offers three functions (tread, sled, and parachute).
Kyra’s mission for MEGA is “to cultivate an inclusive, supportive, community-focused workout to inspire, recharge, challenge, and ultimately transform the body and mind.” In just two years, the Jersey City studio has created that community-based fitness experience, with its main principles distilled into a collection of four S’s: shake, sprint, sweat, and smile.
The Montclair Studio
In July of this year, MEGA announced via Instagram that its second location is coming to Montclair in fall 2023. Per the construction tour reel, MEGA Montclair will boast a coffee bar, a retail space (with corner windows), mirrored walls for workout equipment, and, perhaps the most exciting news, a parking lot.

Kyra shared with The Montclair Girl that the MEGA’s Montclair grand opening is delayed due to equipment shipping issues, but locals can expect a grand opening announcement this October. As always, we’ll update this article with details as they unfold.
