This one is for all of the basketball fans in the Montclair area. March Madness 2023 is almost here, and this year it will be taking place from Tuesday, March 14th to Monday, April 3rd — with the games kicking off in Dayton, Ohio and the championship being held in Houston, Texas. As a college town (shout out to the Red Hawks), we know important finding the right local bar to cheer on your favorite college team can be. Sixty-eight NCAA teams from around the United States will be competing against each other and looking to beat the reigning champs, Kansas. To help you choose where to watch, we rounded up a list of local bars that have TVs to watch all of the action. Read on for where to watch March Madness 2023 in Montclair.

De Novo European Pub | 275 Bellevue Avenue

Located right in the Upper Montclair station, this pub has drink specials on certain days of the week, and an easy commute by car, train, or bus. The food is served family-style, as it is in Europe, and menu highlights include charcuterie boards, burgers, and pasta. It’s the ideal place to go around the world via cuisine without ever leaving Montclair. Alongside craft cocktails, many of the baked goods, like bread and pastries, are made in-house. De Novo has a second location in Edgewater, with similar menus and specials.

The Ivy at Chatham

Egan + Sons | 118 Walnut Street

A range of beers, Irish decor, and family history come together at this modern pub in the heart of Montclair. It has been voted the best bar in Northern New Jersey every year since it opened.  There are house-made ales and TVs so you can enjoy the atmosphere and sports simultaneously. Food options include boneless wings, truffle mac and cheese, and Irish toasties. The house-made ales are part of an extensive list of 34 classic and craft brews on tap, as well as over 100 rare and cornerstone beers.

Family-run and cozy, this eatery has been a Montclair staple since 1997. The restaurant’s outdoor, covered patio boasts large TVs so you can have a cool view of the surroundings AND a view of the game. The eatery works with several local partners to provide fresh, seasonal ingredients and local coffee, sweets, and more. The menu includes specials that change with the seasons, as well as a separate football list for Sunday game day. The calendar also includes live music on the restaurant’s patio.

Tierney’s Tavern | 136-138 Valley Road

Complete with HD TVs perfect for watching sports, this Montclair staple is an Irish dive bar with sports trivia, drink specials, and two floors of space. There’s live music on Friday and Saturday nights, as well as specials for football Sundays. Tierney’s has it all and has been hosting groups of friends in Montclair since 1934. The updated menu includes American staples like wings, grilled cheeses, burgers, and tuna melts at wallet-friendly prices. Added bonus — it’s the only store in Montclair that offers to-go beer and wine until 10PM on Sundays.
