About Egan’s
Egan + Sons was founded in 2005 and is a comfortable, classic pub that has upscale vibes. The bar and restaurant’s two founders are from Ireland and Montclair respectively, and the result is a unique fusion of the two locations. The spot is “a marriage of true pub culture that also meets the needs of the community with all ages in mind,” as it states on the website. Both the bar and Irish cuisine here have been recognized as some of the best in Northern New Jersey for many years, and the enjoyable atmosphere gives it that family-friendly feel that’s still upscale.

The indoor and outdoor dining areas here make it versatile — diners can experience the modern feel and classic Irish decor inside or choose to dine in the heart of Montclair outside on the patio. The outdoor portion was also recently expanded to take up a large area of the parking lot, making it a good choice for an outdoor party or event.
The Eats
The menu here changes seasonally and includes a variety of salads, burgers and sandwiches, bar pies, main courses, and small plates, most with some kind of Irish slant. There’s also a selection of vegan meals, including Miso Roasted Cauliflower, a Kale and Wild Mushroom Rice Bowl, and more. Select menu items like Arugula Orzo Salad can also be prepared vegan.

Diners can choose from classic meals like an open-faced Reuben, savory chicken pie, and traditional bangers and mash, or try out something different like a Thierry Henry bar pie complete with béchamel, caramelized onions, gruyere, and olives. The restaurant also serves specials like an Egan’s classic double cheeseburger and “Chip Shop” Fish and Chips. In addition to the more Irish-inspired fare, Egan’s also serves classic bar food like wings and tacos — and the burgers are also top-notch. Small plate options include east coast oysters, truffle mac and cheese, marinated beets, Irish toasties, and more.
