International Waffle Day, March 25th, is here. But even if it weren’t, there’s always a reason to celebrate breakfast and this classic dish. In New Jersey restaurants, you can find waffles of all types — from savory dishes for dinner to sweet treats for dessert. Whether you take your waffles with syrup, butter, jam, peanut butter, plain, or with some other creative topping, we’ve covered some noteworthy waffle spots in North Jersey. Read on for a list of some of the most creative and unique waffle dishes at various North Jersey restaurants.

Anthony’s Cheesecake I 71 Washington Street, Bloomfield

This popular restaurant is famous, of course, for its namesake dessert, but people line up for the inspired dishes offered during weekend brunch. Waffle lovers have a few yummy choices. The cannoli cream Belgian waffle with strawberries and chocolate drizzle or the cookie butter waffles served with fresh banana slices will satisfy your early morning sweet tooth.

The Belgian Plate by @waffleitandco I 210 Hudson Street + 232.5 Pavonia Ave, Jersey City

This cute spot is within walking distance of Exchange Place in Jersey City — and just recently opened up its first independent storefront back in Hamilton Square. There are plenty of waffle dishes on the menu, such as the Mediterranean waffle with tomato, mozzarella, arugula, and basil, or the Good Morning Jersey Waffle with ham, gruyere, spinach, and a maple syrup drizzle. The southern chicken waffle is another unique dish, made with chicken, cheese, arugula, and ranch dressing. The French Kiss Waffle is excellent for dessert, made with chocolate mousse, strawberries, and whipped cream.

Brownstone Pancake Factory I 717 East Palisade Avenue, Englewood Cliffs + 860 River Road, Edgewater

This family-owned business is a staple on top 10 breakfast spots  – it even received a nod on Guy Fieri’s Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives. The young and young-at-heart can pick from such original offerings as the Ultimate Unicorn Waffle Tower, two Belgian waffles baked with rainbow sprinkles, topped with red velvet cake, cotton candy, lollipops, and drizzled with colorful sauces. There’s also a location in Brick, New Jersey.

Fascino I 331 Bloomfield Avenue, Montclair

This upscale restaurant is a destination place for many residents and visitors and is known for its traditional Italian dishes with a twist. But if you like food from the grill, don’t overlook its Sunday brunch, where you can order a big plate of Belgian waffles with marshmallow brulee, Nutella drizzle, and powdered sugar.

Grid Iron Waffle Shop I 12 South Orange Avenue, South Orange

Students and residents flock here because it offers creative choices made with Belgian or brioche waffles. Offerings include the Bad Boy, a cinnamon Belgian waffle stuffed with peanut butter chunks and topped with butterscotch ice cream and caramel drizzle; or the bacon, brie, and basil that comes with apricot preserves and is served over a brioche waffle.

Huck Finn Diner I 2431 Morris Avenue, Union

Like any New Jersey diner, this is a place where you can get anything you want at most hours of the day or night. The restaurant receives high marks for its waffles, which you can get done the traditional way with just a dusting of powdered sugar, butter, and syrup; or you can go all out and order the bananas foster waffle, which is served with brown sugar rum sauce, walnuts, and vanilla ice cream.

Le Souk serves it with lettuce, tomato, cucumber, hummus, tahini, yogurt, pickles, and pita bread.
