A new vegan option is coming to Montclair. Yellow Rose Vegan Bakery and Cafe, an all-vegan and kosher bakery in Maplewood, is opening a second location in Montclair’s Lackawanna Plaza at 1 Lackawanna Plaza. In just six years, the bakery has evolved from an online store to a Maplewood storefront with collaborations with coffee shops in Somerset County. About Yellow Rose
Yellow Rose Bakery began as an online bakery in Maplewood in 2020 by friends Caitlyn Webber and Stephen Tong. After quick success, it became an in-person bakery later that same year, located at 410 Ridgewood Road in Maplewood. So what’s all the hype about? The menu is completely vegan, including a variety of breakfast favorites (usually h ard to find in vegan-friendly forms) like breakfast sandwiches, grab-and-go meals, cookies, and donuts. There’s also a separate gluten-free menu and a selection of rotating seasonal drinks.
Over the first five years in Maplewood, Yellow Rose became a certified local staple, but wanted to reach vegan eaters beyond Essex County. In October 2025, the cafe teamed up with Somerville-based Ambee Coffee, an organic coffee and tea company, to serve a smaller menu at the coffee shop’s two locations.

Now, Yellow Rose is ready for its next step and is taking its next step in expansion by opening a new location at Lackawanna Plaza in Montclair.
Lackawanna Plaza has transformed over the last year. After being an empty space for over 10 years, Lackawanna Plaza reopened in 2025 and has become home to multiple small businesses. One addition is The Little Shops, which is a collection of pop-up shops selling an array of different products. While there are other food spots in the Plaza, Yellow Rose will be the only one within The Little Shops space.
