Ramadan commemorates the prophet Muhammad’s first revelation in 610 AD. It is recognized as a holy month by the Islamic community that involves fasting and eating. This holiday runs on the ninth month of the Islamic calendar — and this year it’s from Friday, April 1st to Sunday, May 1st. To help celebrate the right way, we’ve rounded up a list of all the happenings in this time of reflection, charity, and community. Hudson County
April 2nd – Ramadan Take + Make Craft at Hoboken Public Library | 500 Park Avenue, Hoboken
Pick up a craft in the children’s room in the library and learn about the holiday. Kits will be available to take home, and this event runs all day. Learn more here.
April 3rd – May 1st – Iftar Boxes at Korai Kitchen | 576 Summit Avenue, Jersey City
Local Bangladesh-inspired eatery Korai Kitchen will be selling its Iftar boxes for the entirety of Ramadan. Each box is portioned for one person and includes beef tehari, two beguni (eggplant fritters), two piyaju (chickpea fritters), one aloo chop (potato croquette), boot (black chickpeas), and two dates. NJ Sisterhood
NJ Sisterhood is a Muslim women’s group that works with local mosques and volunteers to deliver groceries to Hudson County families in need. As of last year, packages of groceries and other basic necessities have been donated to more than 500 families during Ramadan. Learn more here.

Middlesex County
April 6th – RU Fasting? | 604 Bartholomew Road, Piscataway
This event aims to educate everyone on the purpose of fasting amongst different religions and how each religion observes fasting and will be held at the Rutgers University Busch Student Center. Learn more here.
April 25th – Cornerstone Ramadan Community Iftar | 34 Charles Street, South River

This workshop aims to dispel misconceptions about Islam by answering any questions you may have with a free snack during the month of Ramadan. Learn more here.

April 9th – May 7th – Ramadan Course Hosted by the Shaykh Yasir Fahmy | 881 Route 206, Bridgewater
