The Family Business of Mayfair Farms

Mayfair Farms was formerly known as The Mayfair Club. The property, located at 481 Eagle Rock Avenue, West Orange, was purchased in 1942 by local businessman Martin L. Horn Sr. After much renovation, the property was transformed into a “gracious home” which was used as a private luncheon club. It then evolved into a restaurant and catering facility known as Mayfair Farms. In 1943, Martin was awarded the first President of the New Jersey Restaurant Association for his faithful service.

“THANK YOU & FAREWELL! After 80 years of successful business, Mayfair Farms has officially closed. We would like to thank you for sharing life’s most memorable occasions with us. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the many people who have become dear friends and supporters through the years, and to our loyal and loving staff for their dedication. It has been a most rewarding journey. Established 1942 — Closed, June 30, 2022.”

So what will the property be used for going forward? According to a Zoning Board of Adjustment Meeting held on June 9th, an application has been submitted to turn it into a senior living facility. Monarch Development Group JV LLC is seeking “variances to subdivide the existing property and create construction of a multi-level senior housing facility.”
