Our four-legged friends do so much for us, between keeping us active with daily walks and making us laugh with their goofy antics. Your pup deserves a day out just as much as you do. Read on for a look at some local wineries and breweries in North Jersey that would be happy to serve you and your four-legged friend, as long as you both have a valid license.

902 Brewing Company | 101 Pacific Avenue, Jersey City

902 Brewing Company

902 Brewing Company first got its start working out of a Hoboken apartment. The brewers have since moved to Jersey City, gaining an official storefront along with some much-needed elbow room. If you and your dog also need some space to spread out, no problem. The company embraces friendly pooches and their owners alike. Reservations can be made online.

The Alementary Brewing Co. | 58 Voorhis Lane, Hackensack

The-Alementary-Brewing-Co.

The Ivy at Chatham

This brewing company is constantly updating its tap list, but family-friendly hours are always on the menu (from 12 to 4PM on the weekends). Pups, too, are invited to make an appearance at the Alementary’s outdoor Biergarten. Reservations are not required, but the brewery’s website notes that you might consider calling ahead as we move into the summer months. Same-day reservations will not be taken, though walk-in guests will be accommodated on a first-come, first-served basis.

Beneduce Vineyards |  1 Jeremiah Lane, Pittstown

Beneduce Vineyards is a farm and winery in Hunterdon County that seeks to “bring out the best in each individual batch of fruit.” If you’re at your personal best with your dog by your side, you’ll be pleased to learn that well-mannered and leashed furry friends are able to stop by the outdoor spaces. The farm frequently hosts live music and a variety of local food trucks (inspired by cuisine from around the world), so you and your little buddy can truly make an event out of a trip to the vineyard. Visitors are also welcome to bring their own picnics (don’t forget the Scooby Snacks) or purchase food on-site from the tasting room.

Burnt Mills Cider Company is a new spot that is on a  mission to become a community gathering place by promoting “a great product and a happy customer.” The dog-friendly atmosphere and ample outdoor seating also make this a nice venue for a weekend excursion with your dog. The tasting room is tucked away amongst Somerset County’s rolling hills and expansive farms, making a spectacular setting for a day’s outing. Be sure to check out the offerings on tap. With creative options like Pineapple and Hibiscus Rose, the signature ciders at Burnt Mills are ready to embrace the late spring and early summer.

Corgi Spirits Distillery | 150 Pacific Avenue, Jersey City

The folks at Corgi Spirits are proud of the namesake, a breed they characterize as “feisty, agile, and dependable.” But, no matter the breed, your friendly pet is invited to visit the outside portion of the distillery. The pooch with a discerning palate will be pleased with the array of seasonal cocktail options including Corgi’s take on a summer spritz or margarita. For the diligent dog owner acting as the designated driver, the distillery also boasts an extensive list of specialty mocktails creations.

Departed Soles | 150 Bay Street, Jersey City

Departed Soles

Departed Soles has some impressive gluten-free offerings on tap (the brewery has won several international awards for their gluten-free beers), so if you’re a dog person with dietary restrictions, this might quickly become your new favorite hangout. Dogs are permitted, and the Departed Soles location features several out-of-doors spaces that you and your furry friend can choose between. Gluten-free patrons can rest assured that the brewery uses certified GF ingredients and dedicated equipment to craft their gluten-free beers. And for those who like their brew with a side of gluten, Departed Soles of course has a #DefinetlyNotGlutenFree menu.

Fox Hollow Vineyards | 939 Holmdel Road, Holmdel

Think wine and chocolate are a great combination? At Fox Hollow Vineyards you can pair a wine tasting with some quality time with your dog. The sprawling 94-acre property found in Holmdel is family-owned and operated, and the vineyard strives to produce wines that “work well in pairings and can also stand alone.” Pups are welcome as long as they remain leashed and outdoors.

Ghost Hawk Brewing | 321 River Road, Unit 6, Clifton

This local spot was founded in 2019 by three friends who grew up in the area. The brewery was the first craft beer brewery to open in Passaic County. Pets and kids are welcome at the brewery, however only certified service dogs are allowed inside the tasting room. In addition to the classic core lineup, there are always many seasonal brews on tap.

Jersey Girl Brewing Company | 426 Sand Shore Road, Mount Olive

Jersey Girl Brewing Company

Owners of the Mount Olive-based Jersey Girl Brewing Company, Chuck Aaron and Mike Bigger, feel that their brewery offers “a little bit of family, a little bit of beer.” The brewery sees your pup as an extension of your family, so furry friends are often around at Jersey Girl’s Biergarten. If you’re a dog lover currently looking to adopt, you might also be interested to learn that the brewery frequently hosts an event called “Doggy Noses and Yoga Poses.” This mixed-level yoga class is taught while adoptable dogs (brought in by various rescue organizations) are allowed to roam. Chuck said that the fundraiser is a great way to organically match available  pets with potential homes because the “dogs pick the people, [the] people don’t pick dogs.” Sign up for Jersey Girl’s newsletter to learn more about upcoming adoption events.

Long Valley Pub + Brewery | 1 Fairmount Road, Long Valley

This dog-friendly location has aptly named its very own IPA: “Dog Star.” While the brewery notes that this ale is “perfectly balanced…floral, citrusy, and piney with bitter notes,” it’s probably not the best beverage to give to your furry friend. Never fear, when visiting the historic property (located in Long Valley’s Restaurant Village) you can order a “doggy bowl” so that no member of your party goes thirsty.

Montclair Brewery | 101 Walnut Street, Montclair

Montclair Brewery

Dogs are allowed outdoors at Montclair Brewery, though the website notes that four-legged friends must be well-behaved (Beethoven, beware). This microbrewery, found on Walnut Street in Montclair, has a variety of drinks and a selection of small snacks. If you’d like a more substantial meal you can either bring food or have it delivered (doggy bag, anyone?). And if your pup is better at home, flights, cans, and growlers can be ordered for pick up and delivery.

Pilsener Haus is a Hoboken favorite, modeled after a classic European Biergarten. If you’ve ever wanted to enjoy Oktoberfest alongside your pup, this is the place to go. The open-air patio at Pilsener Haus is welcoming of pets, and the waitstaff won’t tell if you slip your pooch a small piece of your Bavarian Pretzel appetizer. The Biergarten hosts brunch every Saturday and Sunday, with special events scheduled throughout the month.

Unionville Vineyards | 9 Rocktown Road, Ringoes

Unionville Vineyards

This boutique winery and events location in Hunterdon County provides another pleasant country escape. Small parties (groups of eight or less) can simply arrive to enjoy the lovely lawns and picnic grounds, and leashed dogs can partake in the outside fun too. Outdoor reservations are not taken for small parties, but groups of nine or more should call ahead to secure a time. Staffers at Unionville Vineyards are also happy to recommend the local inns should you care to make your visit an entire weekend away.

Working Dog Winery

Working Dog Winery is an award-winning vineyard in Mercer County, open for visitors year-round on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays. Your dog is welcome to accompany you to the property as long as they remain in designated areas and are well-trained. Small groups are invited to enjoy wines by the bottle while stretching out on blankets or chairs on the lawn (visitors can bring their own chairs, blankets, pop-up tents, and umbrellas as patio seating is limited). In addition to wine and small bites, some soft drinks are available for purchase onsite and all dogs will be treated to complimentary water. Note that reservations are not required or accepted.
