Mastriano Quality Market has been a fixture at 1058 Broad Street in Bloomfield since 1966. It’s a butcher, a deli, a grocery store, and a takeout restaurant all in one. You can get your steaks for the weekend barbecue, a sandwich for lunch, pasta for Sunday, and bread from Nicolo’s Bakery without stepping foot outside the store. This place truly offers it all. Read on to learn more about Mastriano in Bloomfield.
About the Owners
Brothers Eddie Milano and Anthony Milano have owned Mastriano for the past 15 years. Anthony started as a butcher’s apprentice at the age of 14 as an after-school job. At the time, Mastriano’s was still owned by its original owners.
When the owner wanted to sell, the Milano brothers purchased it and have been running it together ever since. You can frequently find them behind the counter preparing food and breaking down meat for purchase.

Eddie and Anthony grew up in Bloomfield and the city was happy to see its beloved Mastriano stay in local hands.
The Atmosphere
There is nothing fancy about the look of Mastriano – it’s approachable and nostalgic, and that’s why people keep coming back decade after decade. Not much has changed over the years in the Brookdale shopping area where Mastriano is located, and that’s the way we like it.

The daily specials are handwritten on the board and the deli cases are full of cold cuts, meats, cheeses, and prepared foods. It’s the kind of place that you feel comfortable ordering in and are happy to come back to time and time again.
Mastriano took the time during COVID to make some updates such as reorganizing their grocery items on new shelves and painting, but it still has its original charm.
The Menu
Mastriano offers so many items it’s hard to narrow down which are the most popular. Some clients come in for the meat, some for catering, some for prepared foods, and some for a great sandwich.

All of Mastriano’s meats are prepared in-house and are cut-to-order, ensuring a high-quality product every time. The prepared food items like soups, sauces, sausages, pasta, and deli salads are all homemade in-house.

Mastriano’s sells only the best, including Bell & Evans chicken, Boars Head deli products, and bread from Nicolo’s Bakery in Montclair. Mastriano and Nicolo’s have been working together since Nicolo’s opened a year after Mastriano in 1967.
The most ordered sandwich is the #5 Signor Roli Poli. The sandwich has fried chicken cutlets, —which are made every day, fresh-sliced prosciutto, broccoli rabe, and mozzarella. It’s an Italian deli classic that never goes out of style.
The Pandemic Effect
At the very beginning of the pandemic, Mastriano was busier than ever. Local patrons were unable to find a lot of the grocery supplies they needed at the supermarkets and began to purchase all the food items they needed at Mastriano.
As a result, Mastriano ceased sandwich-making for a short time to keep up with the demand of its other products. The store started offering curbside pick-up to make it easier for customers to get their food safely.
COVID brought new customers to Mastriano and it has since restarted all food services. This delicious butcher and deli is excited to continue to serve Bloomfield and its surrounding areas for generations to come.
