Summer weather is most certainly here in NJ, and there’s no better way to cool off than with an iced coffee and a sweet or savory treat. Sweet Trail Vegan Cafe in Bloomfield has exclusively vegan, and some gluten-free (GF) options for customers to savor. Conveniently located at 170 Broad Street in Bloomfield, or on the corner of Broad Street + Belleville Avenue, it’s easy to spot this corner storefront with the bright blue sign. About the Owner
Sweet Trail’s owner McEmsara Quesada is a Jersey City native and a Montclair State University alumna. She’s done an awesome job of capturing some of Jersey’s well-known favorites in vegan form. Some of these are Taylor Ham, breakfast sandwiches on bagels, and magic bars (these are vegan + gluten-free).
When asked what made her want to create a brand like Sweet Trail, she mentioned it was important for her to see more vegan options available — especially milkshakes. There are so few out there and she wants to create space for more of a vegan dessert variety.

The Space
A look inside this little bakery displays a large counter with a savory menu and a televised dessert menu in the corner of the store. There is a bar with window seat stools upon entering on the right. Along the left side, Sweet Trail has small tables with booth-style seating. It’s a nice spot to enjoy cupcakes and chat with friends or have a breakfast sandwich and workspace for WFH lovers.
The Bloomfield location is Sweet Trail’s brick-and-mortar location, as its roots are mobile. Sweet Trail originally started as a food truck that McEmsara would take to places like Asbury Park, NJ, and Lancaster, PA. Guests kept asking where the bakery was located, so a storefront was a logical next step.
There are now two trucks in addition to the storefront, and McEmsara brings the truck full of goodies to special events like festivals and private events, including weddings.
Menu Items
Some popular savory items on the menu currently are Beyond Empanada, Pulled Jack Sandwich, and Taylor Ham, Egg, and Cheese on a bagel (available on a plain or everything bagel). Taylor Ham here takes on an amazingly similar form in texture and taste. It’s a must-try. The best part? Sweet Trail has options for dining inside and to go.

When asked about the dessert menu, cupcakes seem to be a fan favorite. Popular flavors are red velvet, funfetti, and Oreo (with cookies + cream icing, and an actual Oreo at the base).
