Elephant Plate, a plant-based and gluten-free shop that specializes in chef-prepared grab-and-go meals, has opened a second Essex County location at 10 Lackawanna Plaza in Montclair. Read on to learn more about what to expect at the new Elephant Plate store.
The healthy food store was founded by Roshni Mohan. An Instagram post introducing the person behind the business stated, “As a Yoga teacher, she follows a yogic diet, which consists of foods that aid in the three-stage process of digestion, assimilation & elimination. By providing bodies with natural, organic, and easy-to-digest foods, we can keep our digestion moving smoothly, eliminate stagnation and toxic waste from the body, and in turn boost our immune systems.”
It continued, “During the pandemic, she and husband Ajay decided to close down their long-standing Information Technology company and focus on bringing wellness food to market. Elephant Plate was born.”
The team at Elephant Plate handcrafts nutrient-dense vegetarian dishes daily using fresh, unprocessed ingredients and super-charged recipes. The meals take less than five minutes to heat and eat. The team sources in-season ingredients from local producers as much as possible.
What sets this meal-prep business apart is that it uses ancient recipes made with ingredients and spices with influences from Korea, the Mediterranean, Thailand, India, and Ethiopia, according to the owners.
The first location in Millburn and the new location in Montclair both offer delivery services for the meal-prep options in addition to in-store pick-up. In addition, the packaging is recyclable, made out of 100% post-consumer plastic.
Some of the menu items include veggie kebabs, overnight oats, warm + cold bowls, stews, tofu dishes, and more.
