Whether you’re a soft shell corn tortilla advocate, prefer flour tortillas, or opt for a hard shell taco, there are so many awesome spots locally to get this meal. Serving up tacos on Main Street in Little Falls, A Taco Affair’s menu provides a nice mix of classic and out-of-the-box tacos. We recommend an al pastor taco and a more fusion-based taco like the shrimp po’ boy for the full experience. And make sure to get an order of the truffle yuca fries – they’re not to be missed.

With two locations in Essex County, Benji’s Taqueria is a popular spot for authentic Mexican food. Benji’s even offers a vegan taco featuring cactus — and if you’ve never had a cactus taco, you’ve seriously been missing out. Grab a cold agua fresca and enjoy it alongside its delicious tacos.

Famous for its birria taco, Chofi got its start at Smogasburg in Brooklyn and opened its first brick-and-mortar in Union City. Chofi offers different tacos and tortas which can be paired with consume (“birria broth”) for dipping. The combination of savory and juicy creates a truly flavorful experience.

La Casa De Los Tacos has dine-in, delivery, and take-out options for your convenience — and it has a seriously large taco menu. Whether you’re craving shrimp, carne asada, chicken, lamb. pork, or something vegetarian, this spot has got you covered. You can also customize each taco with add-ons like avocado, guac, sour cream, and more. Pro tip: we recommend the salsa verde.

Los Hermanos Mexican Grill | 190 Bloomfield Avenue, Montclair

Los Hermanos Mexican Grill is new to the thriving Bloomfield Avenue food scene, but it’s made its presence known quickly. It serves breakfast and lunch, with tacos taking front-and-center on its lunch menu. Visit and welcome this newcomer to the neighborhood.

Maddy’s Mexican Restaurant | 52 N Beverwyck Road, Lake Hiawatha

Maddy’s Mexican Restaurant is a beloved spot in Morris County with colorful décor and a satisfying menu. It offers two different types of tacos – “a la Mex” (corn tortillas served with onion + cilantro) and “Americanos” (flour tortillas served with pico de gallo, lettuce, + cheese). Whichever way you go, you’re bound to have a great meal at Maddy’s.

Órale’s wall of Jarritos isn’t the only thing colorful and vibrant about this Mexican spot. Serving up inventive tacos, its menu offers many fresh + spicy seafood options ideal for a summer’s night. Visit one of its three locations in North Jersey and sip a cold margarita — and definitely opt for the guacamole.

Tacos is Life | Woodland Park

Hard to find but worth the hunt, the Tacos is Life taco truck frequents events around Woodland Park and is usually seen with a large line standing in front of it. The line is no coincidence – this authentic taco truck is no frills, all flavor. To try it this summer, stop by Woodland Park’s Farmers Market, taking place Saturdays from 9AM-1PM.

With eight locations in total, the love of Tacoria has spread throughout New Jersey. Its menu is entirely customizable with tons of options for meat-eaters, vegetarians, and vegans alike. It’s a great spot for a quick, flavorful, and super delicious lunch or dinner.

Taco Intenso | 7410 Broadway Avenue, North Bergen

Taco Intenso has won itself a host of great reviews with delicious + authentic eats. This North Bergen jaunt has a signature taco called, unsurprisingly, ‘tacos intensos.’ It comes with 4 tacos with queso, beans, cilantro, onions, and your choice of meat. This spot also serves up vegetarian tacos.

Tacos La Gringa | 872 Broad Street, Bloomfield

Although Tacos La Gringa has been serving North Jersey since 2017, it recently moved to a new location on Bloomfield Avenue. Dishing up authentic Mexican, this spot makes a superb lengua taco — if you’re open to an experience outside of your comfort zone. Looking for something more familiar? The steak tacos are packed with juicy meat.

Taqueria | 236 Grove Street, Jersey City

Taqueria started as a food truck on the corner of Grove and Montgomery in Jersey City and has become a local legend. Always busy but always delicious, Taqueria is worth the wait. Serving brunch on the weekends and lunch and dinner during the week, anytime is a good time to go try its carnitas taco.

Tortas Lokas | Multiple North Jersey Locations

Tortas Lokas’ slogan is “con mucho sazón y locura” (with a lot of flavor + madness) — and that’s what you can expect from this rapidly expanding restaurant. Need to feed a crowd? Have its truck stop by your place or order the “Taquiza Loka” featuring 30 assorted tacos.

Victoria’s Mexican-American Grill | 201 Main Street, Little Ferry

Victoria’s is a bit off-the-gird when it comes to having a digital fingerprint — but don’t let that deter you. Though you can’t order online, this spot is worth the trip in for fresh and flavorful food. The interior is super bright, colorful, and fun — and the food is simply awesome. The shrimp tacos are particularly delicious.
