Van Hook Cheese & Grocery, a family-owned Jersey City favorite, is bringing its offerings to Essex County. The cheese shop will expand to Montclair this summer, bringing the same type of offerings, including dips, cheese wheels, produce, fresh mutz, and more. Read on to learn more about Van Hook Choose expanding to 111 Grove Street, Montclair.

The current location at 528 Jersey Avenue in Jersey City has a bright blue storefront decorated with an eye-catching skyline decal and quaint awning. The shop is known for its cheese platters and creative grilled cheese sandwiches, which are offered with a variety of toppings including duck, truffle gouda, and hot honey.

The new shop will expand to 111 Grove Street in Montclair, and the locally-owned shop will continue to offer inventive, new offerings dreamt up by staff and fans of Van Hook Cheese & Grocery. For example, one of the members of the team dreamt up Queso Burracho, a dip made with cheddar cheese, Negra Modelo beer, hot peppers, and Nicky’s secret sauzon de tacos.

The company offers The Motherboard, complete with everything cheese fans need to build a beautiful, at-home cheese board. It includes the board itself and a variety of cheeses and other provisions that go together to build an Instagram-worthy charcuterie board (we love the truffle honey!).

Other offerings from Van Hook include meats, crackers, antipasti, butter, and caviar. In-store shopping and curbside pickup are available at the Jersey City location while we await the opening of the Montclair location. The store is open from 12PM to 7PM during the week, and 10AM to 5PM on the weekends.

Cheese platter pricing starts at $65, and vegetarian options as well as build your own board options are available, and the largest pre-built trays can serve up to 20 people. Tiny boards serve up to six people and vary in terms of cheeses and meats selections. The trays can be purchased with the meats and cheeses, and the shop has a ‘bring your own board’ option so you can finally use that good china.

For special occasions, the company also offers cheese boxes that are perfect for gift-giving or event hosting, and work to celebrate any event, no matter the theme.

Van Hook Cheese & Grocery joins the likes of Grape Collective and Vinnie’s Mootz to offer cheese in the Essex County area and will be located on the ground floor of an office building. It replaces the Auto Laundry of Montclair, which offered car detailing services before it closed permanently.

Located near the corner of Walnut Street, Van Hook Cheese & Grocery’s new neighbors include Panzano Pizzeria, Pappardelle Ristorante, and home goods store Izzy & Tallulah.
