From long-awaited restaurant debuts to expanding local favorites and wellness concepts, there is no shortage of options to check out. Bagel Supreme | Lackawanna Station, 1 Lackawanna Plaza, Montclair

Bagel Supreme Go is now open inside Lackawanna Station in Montclair, bringing the family-owned brand’s 13th location to New Jersey. The breakfast and lunch spot serves classic and specialty bagels, breakfast sandwiches, wraps, pancakes, waffles, smoothies, coffee, and more, but one of its standout features is a build-your-own cream cheese bar with toppings like Nutella and fresh fruit. Gluten-free and vegan bagel options are available. It’s located next to BDP just outside The Big Room, and is open seven days a week.

CLAQ HAUS | 356 Bloomfield Avenue, Suite 6, Montclair

A pole fitness studio with another location in Bergen County, is expanding to Montclair. The studio is built around the idea that movement should feel empowering, exciting, and inclusive for people of all shapes, sizes, and fitness levels. The classes combine strength training, flexibility, and dance for a full-body workout, and CLAQ HAUS also hosts events and private parties. Opening details are still TBD.

Clementina | 627 Valley Road, Montclair

Clementina in Upper Montclair opened in early June, bringing a modern Italian dining experience inspired by Italy’s Adriatic Coast. It’s led by Italian-born Chef Michele Rocchi, and the restaurant specializes in contemporary seafood-focused dishes in a warm, nature-inspired environment in the former Saunder’s Hardware space.

Farmhouse Fried Chicken is an elevated fried chicken concept that is taking over the former DaVinci’s Brick Oven Pizza space at 223 Bellevue Avenue. This is the second business venture of the team behind Dan + Day’s Burgers + Shakes, located at 598 Valley Road in Montclair.

Gulf Gas Station Convenience | 120 Watchung Avenue, Montclair

The Gulf gas station at 120 Watchung Avenue in Montclair received approval in April to add a convenience store to the corner property, replacing the existing auto repair shop. The project will include updates like pedestrian walkways, bike racks, lighting, and landscaping. There have been concerns about traffic at the busy intersection, according to Montclair Local.

Hummus Republic took over the former Plaza Convenience location at 412 Bloomfield Avenue in Montclair. The restaurant specializes in fresh Mediterranean food, including customizable bowls, wraps, and pitas, plus sides like house-made hummus and street-style fries.

A women’s-only Pilates studio is entering the Livingston fitness scene in August 2026. This will mark the business’s third location, with other spaces in Clifton and Garfield, NJ.

Jackie’s Grillette | 612 Valley Road, Montclair

Jackie’s Grillette has expanded into the larger space next door at 612 Valley Road in Upper Montclair, giving the longtime neighborhood favorite more room to serve its customers. Along with the move, the family-owned Mediterranean eatery has shortened its name to “Jackie’s,” while continuing to serve the wraps, sandwiches, breakfast favorites, and fresh juices it’s known for. 

Ju-Ichi | 512 Bloomfield Avenue, Montclair

Ju-Ichi officially opened on Bloomfield Avenue in Montclair in early June, bringing authentic Japanese cuisine to the local dining scene. The family-owned BYOB restaurant serves everything from ramen and fresh sushi to rice bowls, udon, and classic appetizers. All sauces are made in house, and it’s especially known for its ramen broth, which boils 100+ pounds of pork bones over 20 other ingredients in an 18-inch pot for around 24 hours. There is also another location in Morristown.

Jungle Juice is a family-owned juice bar with locations in Hoboken, Madison, Morristown, and now Montclair, serving top-quality fresh-pressed juices, smoothies, and acai bowls. Jungle Juice uses fresh fruits and vegetables with the goal of promoting a healthy lifestyle for its customers. The Montclair space opened in early June.

Mexicali Rose | 428 Bloomfield Avenue, Montclair

While the opening date is still TBD, signage for Mexicali Rose has been spotted in Montclair, and its website is now live, reading, “We’re brewing up something authentic. The ultimate Mexican dining experience is almost here.” According to Montclair Local, the restaurant was originally founded by the late Rosemary Leone, who later opened Leone’s restaurant. Her stepson, Dominic Restaino, later took over the business, which closed its Park Street location in 2011. The Restaino family also owns Cuban Pete’s in Montclair.

Middle Child | 42 Fairfield Street, Montclair

Middle Child Kids Consignment opened in May 2026, giving local families a place to shop for gently used children’s clothing, toys, books, and gifts at affordable prices. Founded by Montclair resident and mother Lacey Triplett Thistle, the shop is open Tuesday through Friday, with consignment drop-offs accepted Tuesday to Friday between 10AM-5PM. This initiative gives parents an easy way to let go of outgrown items while helping extend the life of quality children’s products.

Oddfellows | 450 Bloomfield Avenue, Montclair

OddFellows Ice Cream is now open on Bloomfield Avenue in Montclair, bringing its signature small-batch ice cream and creative flavors to town. There are currently 10 locations worldwide, including Montclair. The NYC-based shop serves everything from classic scoops to inventive seasonal flavors, with milkshakes, sundaes, homemade waffle cones, and vegan varieties available.

Signage was first spotted in April 2026 for Oggi Gelato, an Italian gelateria taking over the former Oasis clothing boutique space at 40 Church Street, which closed in December 2025 after 20 years in business. The gelato spot was founded by Carmelo Chiaramida and brought to the United States by Maurizio and Graziano Ricci of the Romanacci restaurant group. It’s known for its traditional artisanal gelato made with high-quality ingredients and no preservatives or artificial additives. Once open, Montclair will mark its first New Jersey location and first U.S. site outside Connecticut.

Pilates Addiction | 638 Bloomfield Avenue, Montclair

Pilates Addiction joined the Montclair fitness scene at the end of April 2026. The studio specializes in precise, personalized workouts, with additional locations in Wayne and Short Hills. We had the chance to take a class at its Wayne location and found the instructors to be knowledgeable and guiding, especially for beginners. The space feels relaxing, with a dimly lit room, color-changing LEDs, and upbeat music that allows for an energizing start to your day.

Qumi | 169 Maplewood Avenue, Maplewood

Qumi has opened in downtown Maplewood, combining a Pilates studio and matcha bar under one roof for a one-of-a-kind wellness experience. The spot was founded by two longtime friends, Camilia Purino and Zephaniah Barte, and brings both mat and reformer Pilates classes alongside handcrafted matcha drinks. The team told MG it has plans to expand the menu by introducing seasonal and espresso-based drinks.

Sardela | 571 Bloomfield Avenue, Montclair

Sardela opened on Bloomfield Avenue in May 2026, bringing the flavors of the Greek islands to the Montclair dining scene. The cuisine is inspired by the Aegean Sea, serving fresh seafood, grilled meats, and traditional mezze in a bright, Santorini-inspired space.

Taking over the former Burgers Grilled Right space, this Mexican restaurant’s name is a Mexican slang idiom that translates to “eye candy.” It has another location in Westfield at 106 Central Avenue. The menu consists of tacos, burritos, tortas, and bowls.

Maplewood-based bakery The Able Baker is expanding to South Orange with a second location aiming to open this summer. The longtime SOMA favorite bakery is known for its cookies, cakes, scones, and coffee, and the new space will have a larger cafe-style setup with counter service, indoor seating, and outdoor seating as part of the 4th + Valley development. 

The Burn | 466 Pleasant Valley Way, West Orange

The Burn is expanding its popular hot Pilates concept with a new location coming to West Orange. The brand is known for its infrared-heated classes and signature Burn Bar with matcha, coffee, smoothies, and wellness bites. The grand opening will take place July 16th with a community-focused wellness event featuring several local businesses, including Montclair Rejuvenation Center, Dolly Moo, Zest in Fairfield, and more. There will also be an opportunity to shop local vendors, tour the studio, enjoy complimentary refreshments, and explore membership options. Every purchase made during the event will earn raffle tickets that can be entered into a giveaway. 

The DRIP | 6 Gates Avenue, Montclair

The Hoboken fitness favorite had been teasing its fifth location in Montclair for months before officially opening at the end of May 2026 at 6 Gates Avenue. The brand was founded by longtime fitness instructors Olivia Bernardo LaCaruba and Samantha Gree during COVID-19 while they were living in Hoboken. Since then, the studio has expanded to multiple New Jersey and Florida locations.

Toastique | 25 Church Street, Montclair

Toastique, a health-focused fast-casual cafe chain known for its gourmet toasts, smoothie bowls, juices, and coffee, opened on Church Street in Montclair in June 2026. The chain was founded in Washington, D.C., and now has over 50 locations nationwide. The Montclair cafe is owned by Zariah Ahmed and is the brand’s first-ever Halal location, meaning all meat follows Islamic dietary guidelines.

Yellow Rose | Lackawanna Station, 1 Lackawanna Plaza, Montclair

Yellow Rose Bakery + Cafe is an all-vegan and kosher bakery in Maplewood that is expanding to Montclair this July 2026 inside Lackawanna Station. The bakery is best known for its fully vegan menu of breakfast sandwiches, baked goods, and seasonal drinks, with gluten-free options available.
