New Jersey summers are no joke when it comes to heat, but luckily for Montclair, ice cream shops are anything but rare, and they seem to keep popping up. The newest addition to the local dessert scene is OddFellows Ice Cream Co., set to host its grand opening on May 30th, and The Montclair Girl got a peek at the scoop shop at 450 Bloomfield Avenue. About OddFellows
OddFellows Ice Cream Co. is a NYC-based ice cream shop that recently popped up in Montclair with its signature bold red and white striped signage at 450 Bloomfield Avenue. Another location is slated to open in Hoboken in the near future, which would be its second New Jersey location.

The brand uses a small-batch approach and first entered the ice cream scene in Brooklyn in 2013. Since then, it has created more than 500 flavors ranging from “weird and wacky” to “improved classics,” according to its website.
There are currently 10 locations worldwide, including Montclair. The brand is most prominent in its origin city of New York, with locations in Brooklyn Bridge Park, Chelsea, Domino Park, and Dumbo. It can also be found in Florida, Texas, Pennsylvania, and even South Korea.
The menu includes classics like chocolate and vanilla ice cream, but the menu also specializes in more adventurous flavors such as peanut butter s’mores, coconut chunk, and a variety of vegan options.
The spot soft-opened to the public on May 16th with “Scoop Camp” on a hot Saturday and has continued its soft launch since then. On May 27th, the shop also hosted a friends-and-family scooping event.
“We’re just so pumped to serve ice cream to the community and meet everyone,” the OddFellows team told MG. “Nothing makes us happier than seeing someone smile with a cone in hand.”

The full OddFellows experience will launch after Scoop Camp, featuring milkshakes, sundaes, floats, homemade waffle cones, and more. They will also be launching an ice cream cart soon, which will be available for parties, graduations, and other events.
The team told MG that there will be a “fun day” on May 30th for its opening party, which will include a live DJ, giveaways + prizes, a gift card for the 100th customer, and other surprises.
