Music Under the June Moon Concert

The first June Moon concert launched in 2016 by the Chamber Music Society of North Jersey and has since become a beloved community tradition, bringing professional musicians together with local residents for an evening of music in a historic park setting and a memorable way to kick off the summer season.

The event takes place on June 6th from 7:30 PM to 9:00 PM at Anderson Park, located at 274 Bellevue Avenue, east of North Mountain Avenue in Upper Montclair. This free event is open to all, and attendees are encouraged to bring a picnic blanket.

This year’s event will follow in the tradition of previous years, featuring musicians associated with the Chamber Music Society of North Jersey, artists who have performed on renowned stages such as Carnegie Hall and still make the trip to Anderson Park each year. See more details and the full musical lineup on the event page here.

History of Anderson Park

John Charles Olmstead was an American landscape architect from Switzerland who journeyed to Anderson Park in 1902 to survey the site and recommend it to the Essex County Park Commission as an ideal location for a suburban park and helping pave the way for its creation.

Friends of Anderson Park was formed in 2006 as a non-profit dedicated to stewardship of the landscape and to preserve its historical, environmental, cultural, and educational qualities.

Its website states, “Our primary mission is to protect the spirit and integrity of the park’s nationally significant Olmsted design and to rehabilitate and maintain its pastoral ambiance.”

Part of the organization’s mission is to plant trees and shrubs using the 1904 Olmsted Planting Plan as a guide. Since 2006, they have planted over 200 trees and hundreds of shrubs. They have also led educational initiatives through public clean-ups, presentations, service projects, and walking tours every May, among many other community programs and events.
