It can be hard to find a spot that is both kid and adult-friendly. And it can be even harder to find a spot that both kids and adults will enjoy. Enter Milk + Mayhem — a new play cafe coming to 147 Valley Road in Montclair this fall, created with both kids and adults in mind. Parents or caregivers will have the chance relax and sip their morning cup of coffee while the kids explore and play. Milk + Mayhem announced via Instagram on Thursday, July 16th that the new play cafe for both adults and kids was coming to 147 Valley Road in Montclair this fall 2025.

The cafe will provide a space where parents and caregivers can unwind and enjoy a cup of coffee or a healthy snack while the kids play in an engaging and fun environment. Milk + Mayhem will have monthly memberships where children can engage in open play sessions with developmentally supportive toys, enriching classes, community events, and more. The space will even have the option to host birthday parties.
Milk + Mayhem comes from the minds of Montclair resident and mom Brooke DeFranco and her fiancé, Ryan Caloo. Brooke shared with The Montclair Girl that construction is currently underway for the Valley Road space, and will be designed by well-known interior designer Blanche Garcia.
“The vibe is calm, beautiful, welcoming — think earthy neutrals, with soft pops of color, cozy seating, and mindfully curated play areas for little ones,” Brooke said. “Our goal is to create a go-to neighborhood spot where caregivers can enjoy local coffee and treats while their kids snack on healthy, kid-friendly options in a safe, engaging environment.”
While Milk + Mayhem will welcome all children, Brooke mentioned that the space is best meant for those between ages six months to around six years. “Kids up to about 7 or 8 may still really enjoy the space, especially during events or slower play times,” she said. There will also be events geared towards older kids.
