About Kaight

Kate McGregor, the founder of the namesake boutique explained the reason for starting it was because she was tired of being a fast-fashion consumer. “Growing up in small-town Ohio, early values included supporting small businesses and buying products that were Made in the USA – and made to last. I wore hand-me-downs. My mother shopped smart and she often made my clothes. Shopping was a treat (not a daily activity) and purchases were thoughtful. When I moved to NYC and began my professional career, I was seduced by the thrill of shopping at the big, fast-fashion retailers, until one day, I wasn’t anymore,” she wrote on the boutique’s website.

She found herself at a “crossroads” and made the decision to open Kaight in 2006. Kate’s mission was and is to provide consumers with fashion-forward clothing and accessory options that meet the following criteria: local production, organic textiles, reclaimed materials, fair trade, and zero waste.

Many of the brands sold at Kaight are small, women-owned businesses that value authenticity and good-quality goods.
