A new Chinese fusion restaurant has opened in Montclair, bringing with it a delicious menu and international recognition. JiangNan, located at 379 Bloomfield Avenue, opened in early January 2023. The restaurant is known for its Chinese fusion dishes that are prepared with traditional recipes and seasonal updates. About the Restaurant
The original location of JiangNan is at 133-42 39th Avenue Unit 101 in Flushing, New York. Another New Jersey location is in Jersey City, located at 97 Montgomery Street. The Montclair location is located at 379 Bloomfield Avenue. The restaurant is open seven days a week from 12PM to 9:30PM.
According to its website, JiangNan has immediate plans for four more locations, and a longer-term goal of 40 locations nationwide. The restaurant prides itself on its Chinese cuisine that has seasonal specials, and a full bar with creative drinks. “Our values include a commitment to high quality, innovation, and customer satisfaction. We strive to be a leader in the Chinese cuisine industry and are dedicated to providing the unique experience of refined banquets and gatherings to our customers.”

Some of the signature dishes at JiangNan include Peking Duck, Sweet and Sour Pork, and Salt and Pepper Shrimp. There is a whole page of grilled fish options, where diners can choose the type of fish, the type of seasoning, and a variety of accompaniments to create a customized entree. The menu also offers Soup Dumplings and a wide variety of fruit teas. JiangNan offers a weekday lunch special that includes rice, soup, a choice of protein, a cold dish, and vegetables, which sounds like a welcome option for remote workers to take a break from their screens.
The restaurant occupies what used to be the Crabulous space at the corner of Bloomfield Avenue and North Willow Street. The Montclair Center BID announced JiangNan’s opening on Friday, January 13th, 2023.
Michelin Recognition
While many are familiar with the Michelin Star rating system for restaurants, the Michelin Bib Gourmand recognition is relatively new. The Bib Gourmand recognizes restaurants that are the best value for the money. According to Michelin, its inspectors spend equal time on Bib Gourmand selections as the traditional Star selections.
The restaurants selected for a Bib Gourmand recognition are of a variety of styles and cuisines and are often on the more affordable side of the spectrum. For example, Midtown pizza spot Rubirosa has been recognized, as well as classic deli Russ + Daughters, and vegan spot Soda Club.

JiangNan was noted in 2022 for having both ‘good quality’ and ‘good value cooking’. In its writeup, the restaurant was praised for its ability to feature dishes from all over China. The Roast Peking Duck is a signature dish, and diners should look out for sliced beef in golden pepper sauce and spicy mapo tofu, per the writeup.
At the time of this writing, there are no Michelin-starred restaurants in New Jersey, nor are there any other Michelin Bib Gourmand restaurants in New Jersey.
