The Ivy at Chatham

Ani Ramen House, as its name suggests, is a great spot to enjoy a big bowl of noodles and broth. But what the name doesn’t tell you is that it also specializes in bao, a Chinese dumpling filled with cabbage and other kinds of fillings. Ani Ramen House has bao buns filled with pork belly, fried tofu, soy-glazed chicken, and panko-breaded shrimp as well as gyoza dumplings.

Elyssia’s Kitchen | 190 Bloomfield Avenue

Elyssia’s Kitchen sets itself apart from other Chinese food restaurants in the area because its menu is primarily full of all different kinds of dumplings. It has bao buns, potsticker dumplings, soup dumplings, and wantons available to order. The bao is filled with beef, and the potsticker dumplings come with a variety of fillings pork with kimchi, fried tofu cabbage, mushroom, or shrimp to name a few. The soup dumplings come filled with either pork or crab and pork, and the wontons are filled with shrimp or shrimp and pork.

Fujiya Ramen | 413 Bloomfield Avenue

This Japanese restaurant strives to bring authentic Japanese food to the area. In addition to the main dishes of ramen and rice bowls, Fujiya Ramen has dumplings on the menu as a side dish. Yaki-Gyoza is a traditional Japanese dumpling that can be served fried or steamed and comes with optional pork or vegetable filling. And the bao is served filled with pork, chicken, or shrimp.

Hunan Taste | 4 Alvin Place

This family-owned restaurant has its original roots in Denville before opening its second location in Montclair in 2016. Hunan Taste specializes in food from the Sichuan, Cantonese, and Mandarin regions of China. The dumpling appetizer selection is enough to make a full meal. It offers both steamed and pan-fried dumplings, spicy chicken dumplings, steamed edamame dumplings, steamed shrimp dumplings, Siu Mai Dumplings filled with pork and shrimp, vegetable dumplings, and pork soup dumplings.

Kai Yang is a Thai restaurant that wants to transport its customers to the streets of Bangkok where owner Sheree Sarabhaya grew up. In addition to serving up Thai favorites like Panang, Red and Green Curries, and Pad Thai, it has a dumpling appetizer that is a local favorite. The Chicken dumplings are filled with chicken, mushrooms, and garlic and are served with a ginger dipping sauce.  

Koreander Restaurant | 128 Watchung Avenue

Koreander serves up traditional Korean food and wants to make every customer who walks through the door feel at home in the restaurant. This cozy place has its dumplings featured on its appetizer menu, perfect for anyone who wants to share something tasty before diving into the main course. Koreander has two dumplings options a traditional Goonmandu dumpling which is filled with beef, pork, or vegetables and is grilled. And the seafood dumpling is filled with a seafood mix and grilled.

SLA Thai Restaurant | 596 Valley Road

This upscale Thai restaurant makes for an excellent date night spot, or for celebrating a special occasion. And what’s more festive than sharing a plate of dumplings with the ones you care about. SLA Thai has dumplings as part of the appetizer menu, a veggie dumpling that is steamed and served with a soy vinaigrette, and Kanom Jeeb a traditional Thai dumpling that is steamed and filled with chicken and shrimp, and served with soy vinaigrette for dipping.
