Montclair will soon be home to the posh women’s and men’s store, J.McLaughlin. Just weeks away from opening its doors, the clothing brand will be located at 219 Bellevue Avenue, taking over the former spot of massage spa Lotus Pond Wellness.

Coming to Montclair
The Montclair Girl spoke to Montclair’s new store manager, Colleen Kelley Whitcombe, who told us the staff is getting the store ready for its opening which will be in September.
“We are excited to join the Upper Montclair community. ‘Being a good neighbor’ is central to the brand’s approach to business and J.McLaughlin values being a welcome and active member of each community in which it operates,” Whitcombe, a Montclair resident herself, shared.

There are over 140 retail stores across the nation. “Each store is entirely unique, attentively designed to reflect the town’s color, character, and architecture,” the website reads. “This attention to detail extends to exemplary customer service and local philanthropic engagement.”

The Montclair location will be unique in terms of the store’s design and layout, but will still have a “distinctive flair of color and signature portfolio of prints” seen in the other locations. The modern classic American brand will have the new September collection, the usual chic clothing for men and women, outerwear, and accessories.
Per the website, the brand’s clothing is “rooted in the tradition of sport, work, and play. It taps into the iconic legacy of true American sportswear. We approach product design with impeccable craftmanship while standout colors and a portfolio of signature prints lend unique touches to every seasonal collection.”

For a taste of what people love about the brand, right now the best-sellers are the signature tee in Neo Bakara (camel print), Emmie jeans (the newest jean that’s the “perfect wear-to-work denim”), the Bronte skirt in Neo Fowlerton (a multi-colored floral skirt that will pair nicely with boots and a cashmere sweater for the fall), and the Billie Jacket in Coco Plum Jacquard (a white “zip up and go jacket”).
About J. McLaughlin
J.McLaughlin was founded in 1977 by two brothers, Jay and Kevin McLaughlin. Their mission, per the website, was to “create a new American sportswear brand that offers two key components: classic clothes with current relevance and a retail environment with a neighborhood feel.”

Most recently the brand launched a golf capsule collection, J.McLaughlin Golf, which is “full of reimagined modern women’s athletic styles in white and navy.”
McLaughlin loves to collaborate. This summer, the brand teamed up with Suzanne Pollak, Dean of the Charleston Academy of Domestic Pursuits, to release the colorful botanical print called A Summer Night’s Dream. In addition, the brand teamed up with the Mate Gallery, a Montecito-based boutique, to come out with the limited-edition Summer House candle (see below).

The Montclair Girl will be sure to notify our readers once J.McLaughlin’s store officially opens.
