For the last few months, Montclair has been home to the posh women’s and men’s store, J.McLaughlin. The clothing brand is located at 219 Bellevue Avenue, which was the former spot of massage spa Lotus Pond Wellness. The store is now hosting its formal grand opening celebration on May 4th from 2:30PM to 5:30PM.

Grand Opening Celebration
Led by hosts Erica Barrett, Sybil Eng, Christene Mann, and Suzanne Skipper, shoppers can enjoy a festive afternoon of sips and spring shopping with florals by Studio Nectar and a sweet treat from The Little Daisy Bake Shop. Plus, 15% of all sales will benefit CASA Essex, a Newark-based non-profit for children.

The Montclair Girl spoke to Montclair’s new store manager, Colleen Kelley Whitcombe, when the staff was preparing for the store’s launch back in September.
“We are excited to join the Upper Montclair community. ‘Being a good neighbor’ is central to the brand’s approach to business and J.McLaughlin values being a welcome and active member of each community in which it operates,” Whitcombe, a Montclair resident herself, shared.

What’s Inside
The Montclair location is unique in terms of the store’s design and layout, but still has a “distinctive flair of color and signature portfolio of prints” seen in the other locations. The modern classic American brand will have the latest seasonal collections, the usual chic clothing for men and women, outerwear, and accessories.
Per the website, the brand’s clothing is “rooted in the tradition of sport, work, and play. It taps into the iconic legacy of true American sportswear. We approach product design with impeccable craftsmanship while standout colors and a portfolio of signature prints lend unique touches to every seasonal collection.”

For a taste of what people love about the brand, right now the trending looks are the Eilidh Jumpsuit (which comes in navy and is made from luxe silk linen), the Harriet Silk Dress in Mini Papillion Garden (which is a floral silk midi dress), and the Poet Sweater in Stripe, which comes in a variety of colors.
About J. McLaughlin
J.McLaughlin was founded in 1977 by two brothers, Jay and Kevin McLaughlin. Their mission, per the website, was to “create a new American sportswear brand that offers two key components: classic clothes with current relevance and a retail environment with a neighborhood feel.”

Most recently the brand launched a golf capsule collection, J.McLaughlin Golf, which is “full of reimagined modern women’s athletic styles in white and navy.”
McLaughlin loves to collaborate. Last summer, the brand teamed up with Suzanne Pollak, Dean of the Charleston Academy of Domestic Pursuits, to release the colorful botanical print called A Summer Night’s Dream. In addition, the brand teamed up with the Mate Gallery, a Montecito-based boutique, to come out with the limited-edition Summer House candle (see below).
