The founder of Drop, Jeb Balise, has renovated the previous space, The Gym, which had been part of the Chestnut Ridge Shopping Center for nearly two decades. The Gym closed down in October 2020 and announced the news in an Instagram post which read, “THE GYM has been the forerunner of the gym experience for over 18 years in the Montvale community, so it is with the sincerest regret that we must inform you that THE GYM of Montvale will not be re-opening its doors at the conclusion to the executive Statewide Stay at Home Order.” The Gym reopened in Englewood, NJ, and Drop Fitness took over its previous space.

The concept behind Drop’s new fitness facility was to combine and bring four popular boutique studios from New York City across the Hudson: HIIT and strength training studio Fhitting Room, yoga studio Humming Puppy, elite running studio Mile High Run Club, and premiere barre studio Physique 57.

In addition to classes offered by these four studios, there will be a private personal training section and 7,000 square feet of premium cardio and free weights. Drop also has locker rooms equipped with saunas and cold plunge showers. For the little ones, there is a kids club for children of members to enjoy while mom and dad work out.
To add to the luxury amenities, the fitness space also features Drop Café, which will have protein shakes, smoothies, gourmet coffee and espresso drinks, toasts, parfaits and other wellness items on hand for before or after a workout.
An App-Driven Workout
What makes the luxe gym different from others is that it’s the first of its kind to have a curated experience via the Drop Fitness app (see below). Per the press release, “The entire experience is powered by the Drop Fitness app offering a safe and custom experience for members from the palm of their hand. [It] reimagines the antiquated $36 billion-dollar big box gym industry for today’s consumer.”
Members simply download the Drop Fitness app to sign up. Then, members will only pay for what they want à la carte, as well as when they want to take a class, schedule a workout session on the cardio and strength training floor, or sign up for an elite personal training session. There will be no contract or automatic renewals.
Additional features on the app allow members to “see, invite, and join friends in class, book a friend to join a personal training session, and order ahead from the Drop café to have food or drinks waiting before or after a workout,” per the release.
Drop Fitness CEO Jeb Balise said, “We believe that in today’s access-driven economy, customers want and deserve better. Every town in America needs a place that they can trust to bring them the best fitness and wellness products and services. We are aiming to build that place from the ground up and we see download-to-join as an opportunity to deliver exceptional value to customers at a time when the demand for both physical and mental health and wellness has never been greater.”
