Just in time for soup season, a new, authentic Vietnamese restaurant has joined delicious Bloomfield Avenue in Verona. The award-winning chef behind the restaurant brings Vietnamese classics and Cantonese dim sum to Bloomfield Ave., giving neighbors a new spot for a night out, with karaoke and live music on weekends. Read on to learn more about Bamboo Village, a family-run restaurant specializing in pho and other Vietnamese delights in Verona.

How It Started

Bamboo Village

Bamboo Village Vietnamese, formerly Bamboo Village Restaurant in Woodland Park, will be opening later this month in Verona. After spending two years in its Woodland Park location, the owners closed that location and moved the restaurant to Bloomfield Ave. In 2020, the restaurant was named one of “The 30 Best New Restaurants” by New Jersey Monthly

The Ivy at Chatham

Owned and operated by Danny Tran and his wife, the family opened the restaurant because they love to share their food with others. They both enjoy cooking, and opening their own restaurant seemed like a natural transition after working in New York City restaurants for many years.

The family decided to move the restaurant to Verona with the goal of sharing delicious food with a new community. They are excited to welcome neighbors to explore Vietnamese cuisine.

The Atmosphere

Bamboo Village

The restaurant features a simple black and white walls and tables with pops of Asian-inspired art on all walls. The art is eye-catching, depicting characters and food, keeping the atmosphere light and fun.

The restaurant is entirely different aesthetically from the previous location, but one thing the owners are bringing from their former location is live entertainment. Singers and live bands will join diners every Friday and Saturday night. The restaurant will also host karaoke once a month and Bamboo Village will be as lively as it is delicious.

The Menu

Bamboo Village

Unlike the Woodland Park restaurant, which was more of a Chinese fusion-based menu, Bamboo Village Vietnamese is about 90% Vietnamese and 10% Chinese, according to the owners. It features many of the commonly known Vietnamese favorites like pho and banh mi, along with some additional authentic dishes that really stand out. Bamboo Village is a BYOB and customers are welcome to bring alcoholic drinks of choice.

The base for the pho, one of the most popular Vietnamese dishes, takes eight hours to make, according to owner Danny. We are sure that with just one slurp, we will taste the time and love put into it.

In addition to its Vietnamese-focused menu, Bamboo Village will serve traditional Cantonese dim sum every Saturday and Sunday from 11:30AM-3:00PM. For those unfamiliar, dim sum is a large range of small dishes that are traditionally enjoyed for breakfast and lunch.

How to Enjoy

The restaurant offers dine-in, takeout, and delivery options so that people far and wide can enjoy the food. The delivery radius is three miles which makes it inclusive of many towns in the area. The delivery minimum is $20 and you can order online or by phone 973-321-9898. For more information on Bamboo Village Vietnamese follow along on Facebook.
