Where to Go Snow Tubing in North Jersey

For some of us, snow in the forecast conjures images of dreaded snowshoveling and repeated icing of sidewalks, while others’ minds immediately go to skiing, snowboarding, and other winter sports. For those looking to have fun in the snow and try something a little more laid-back, easier sports like snowtubing + sledding might be more their speed (pun intended). When it comes to places in Northern, NJ, the area isn’t short of spaces for the less extreme sports. Keep reading to learn more about snow tubing in Northern NJ.

Locations for Snow Tubing Equipment 

  • High Country Ski + Tennis | 465 West Mount Pleasant Avenue, Livingston | Has great options to protect the face like goggles + neck warmers.
  • Out of Bounds | 2520 Route 22E, Scotch Plains | A spot to check out for clothing.
  • The Shop at Big Snow | 1 American Dream Way, East Rutherford | Has reliable brands available such as Burton, Oakley, + GoPro.
  • Ski Barn | 1308 NJ-23, Wayne + 846 NJ-17, Paramus | A great place to check out apparel as well as snow boots for tubing to keep feet warm + dry. 

Snow Tubing Spots + Hills 

Belmont Hill County Park | 18 Schley Street, Garfield 

Belmont Hill County Park takes over the intersection of Palisade Avenue + Botany Street. This park has a scenic overlook at the top of the hill overlooking Paterson. If looking to go tubing or sledding at this location, enthusiasts will need to bring their own.

Big SNOW American Dream | 1 American Dream Way, East Rutherford 

Big Snow is a spot for everyone as it exists in the American Dream Mall. It’s a great space to spend some time tubing, and then get warm in the mall over dinner or a cup of hot chocolate. Tubing options are available for ages 3 + up, and include the ticket with add-ons like outerwear + gloves.

Bunny Hill is located in Kearny, taking up a block containing Passaic Avenue, Bergen Avenue, Afton Street, + Belgrove Drive. The hill runs parallel to the Passaic River, so going downhill with a view is an option. Those looking to participate will need to bring their own tube, and the same goes for sledders  

Campgaw Mountain | 200 Campgaw Road, Mahwah

Campgaw Mountain is located on Campgaw Road and is accessible through major highways like Route 207, 280, 4, + 17. Typically, Campgaw’s goal is to be open from mid-December through March. Tubing options include weekdays, Fridays, and weekends. Single tubes are available, and a surface lift brings riders back to the top of the hill. 

Floods Hill | 100 North Ridgewood Road, South Orange Village

Floods Hill is located on Ridgewood Road and exists in Meadowland Park. The park takes up about a block of space within South Orange. This hill area is a bring-your-own-tube hill where locals go tubing or sled riding when the weather permits. 

 

Fort Lee Sledding Park | 2229 Hudson Terrace, Fort Lee

Fort Lee Sledding Park is located on Hudson Terrace, across the street from Palisades Interstate Park. The park does not provide tubes, so tubers will need to bring their own. Don’t forget to pack lunch. For those who love the outdoors in the winter, there are picnic tables available for park goers.

Maplewood Memorial Park is located on Valley Street + has the East Branch Rahway River running through it. Tubers will need to BTOT (Bring Their Own Tube) to this location. Visitors should consider taking a break from tubing and grab a photo op of the bear trees covered in snow bordering the frozen river. A snowy day of sledding might end up yielding next year’s holiday card photo. 

Mountain Creek Resort | 200 New Jersey 94, Vernon

Mountain Creek can be accessed via Route 94. Although this space has something for every season, including a water park + bike park, it’s a great spot for winter activities like snowboarding, skiing, + snow tubing. Snow tubing tickets are only accessible online and are good for two hours. Single Tandem tubes are available on a first-come-first-serve basis. 

Riker Hill Park | 276 Beaufort Avenue, Livingston

The entrance for River Hill Park is located at the three-way intersection of Beaufort Avenue + Riker Hill Drive. This park encompasses over 204 acres of land, including three parks: Riker Hill Art Park, Dinosaur Park, + Becker Park. Tubers + sledders will need to bring their own gear to this location. 

South Mountain Reservation (Dogwood Hill) | Cherry Lane, West Orange

Dogwood Hill is located within the South Mountain Reservation existing in Essex County’s West Orange, Maplewood, + Millburn/Short Hills. This reservation takes up more than 2000 acres of land. This is another bring-your-own-gear situation for tubers + sledders. 

Verona Park | Porcello Lane, Verona

One of Essex County’s most beautiful parks all year round is Verona Park. The park is 54+ acres and conveniently located on Porcello Lane, which is accessible through Bloomfield Avenue. Peaks + valleys are mild in the park, so it might be a good place to start for those who have never gone tubing or sledding before. Visitors will need to bring their own snow gear.
