NYC Restaurant Pig & Butter Opening in Montclair on 7/31

It is no secret that Montclair and New York City have a close-knit relationship. Many shops (and people) have moved between the two locations, including local favorites like Almost Ready Records, which started in Brooklyn and now lives on Bloomfield Avenue. The Lower East Sides’ Pig & Butter, an all-day brunch spot, is the newest NYC local making the move to Montclair. The restaurant recently announced its opening date at its new location, 401 Orange Road. Keep reading to learn more about the new store opening in Montclair, Pig & Butter.

About Pig & Butter

Pig & Butter is a New York City brunch spot and bar that opened in 2020. It quickly became known as a go-to spot for whatever mood you’re in, since it serves all day brunch, hand-crafted cocktails, and a variety of noshes and small bites to suit any palate. Pig & Butter serves up a Tapas + Butter menu with bites like Korean Short Ribs of Beef + Grits and Thai Basil Curry Mushroom Tostada. Pig & Butter also serves all-day brunch with menu items like Fried Chicken on Cornbread.

Pig & Butter hosts seasonal and recurring events like R&B Mondays. Along with its events, Pig & Butter provided cooking and cocktail crafting classes at the NYC location.

According to its Instagram, Pig & Butter is a black woman-owned business founded by Sherry Grimes and Dr. Shavonne Hylton. Sherry is a classically trained French Chef and former Neuroscientist. Her partner, Dr. Hylton, is an MIT graduate with a PHD in Exposure Science. Their backgrounds in science were used to craft the bar’s cocktails. 

 

Pig & Butter is known for its robust and creative cocktail menu, featuring alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks with quirky names and memorable flavor combinations. That is in addition to the brunch mimosa situation, which is a $5-per-drink special on Saturdays and Sundays till 4PM. Additional juices are available for a $2 upcharge.

The Move

On November 16th, 2025, Pig & Butter announced on its Instagram on November 16th that it will relocate to Montclair, New Jersey. Pig & Butter has not announced an opening date yet for its Montclair location. The Montclair opening will coincide with Pig & Butter’s 5th anniversary. Originally located at 42 Avenue B in New York City, Pig & Butter will host its last service in NYC on Sunday December 7th. A ribbon-cutting ceremony has been announced for 10AM on July 31st at the restaurant’s new Montclair location, at 401 Orange Road.  The Montclair Girl has reached out to Pig & Butter for more information about an opening date and what diners can expect. We will update this piece when we hear back.
