The second Sunday of May is quickly approaching and it’s time to honor the wife, mom, aunt, grandmother, sister, and friend that means so much to us for Mother’s Day. While late-morning brunch seems to be popular, there are other creative options to celebrate Mother’s Day alone or with loved ones. Whether it’s been a busy year, or that special someone just wants a day to themselves, this list has a “me time” day covered and options for tagging along too. Keep reading to see a list of things your special honoree can do to celebrate Mother’s Day in New Jersey.

For Those Who Are Active

BCAS Mother’s Day Nature Walk @ Teaneck Creek Conservatory | 20 Puffin Way, Teaneck

This nature walk provides a chance to spend outdoors in a chill setting on May 12th, from 10AM-12PM. The goal is to take a stroll and appreciate the nature surrounding walkers. The walk is open to all ages, and will take place rain or shiner. For those interested, donations can be made to the Teaneck Creek Conservatory (TCC). Registration is recommended for this event.

JC Families Mother’s Day Celebration | Hamilton Park, Jersey City

The JC Families Mother’s Day Celebration will be held in Hamilton Park from 4PM-7PM on Friday May 10th. Guests can enjoy the sun setting while experiencing arts + crafts, cookie decorating, food vendors, + more. This event is great if looking to celebrate with little ones after school as Garfield the Cat will be present to promote the new film coming to theaters later in May of 2024.

Mother’s Day 5K | 67 Maple Street, Summit

For those looking to have a little more impact this Mother’s Day, try signing up for a 5K race. The race is a tradition that honors mothers and individuals who have made special impacts on our lives. The Summit YMCA will host its event on Sunday, May 5th from 8:30AM-10:30AM. Registration is required and ends on May 3rd.

Mother’s Day Open Swim @ Five Star Swim School | 1655 Oak Tree Road, Edison

Moms swim free at Five Star Swim School on Sunday, May 12th from 3PM-4PM. Those interested in more information should check out the event page with access to the school’s phone number. If unable to make it to this location, Five Star Swim School has other locations across NJ in Cherry Hill, Deptford, East Brunswick, East Hanover, Galloway, and Princeton, and one in Lehigh Valley, PA.

Sunday Morning Fitness Hike @ Schiff Nature Preserve | 339 Pleasant Valley Road, Mendham

Located on the events page hiking lovers can find access to a Sunday Morning Fitness Hike. The hike will take place on Sunday, May 12th from 9AM-11AM at the McVickers Brook Preserve. This hike will cover five miles of varied terrain. The hike is for adults only, free for members of the preserve, and $12 for nonmembers. Leashed dogs are also welcome.

For Those Who Love DIY

Bazaar Star Beadery | 216 Ridgewood Avenue, Ridgewood

Bazaar Star Beadery is a space where customers can purchase beaded jewelry, or create their own wearable art. Color Me Mine | 55 Parsonage Road, Edison (Menlo Park Mall)

On Sunday, May 12th, Color Me Mine will host an event called Mimosas with Mom. There will be two seatings from 11AM-12:30PM and from 1PM-2:30PM. Crafts range from flower vases, picture frames, jewelry boxes, + home decor.
