In 2019, Paper Plane Coffee Co. landed in Montclair at 61 North Fullerton Avenue. Now, the team is expanding to another location in Maplewood at 145 Dunnell Road. The company’s paper airplane logo and name lend themselves to the concept: the company’s roots originate from the family-owned, fifth-generation farm in Colombia, which grows eucalyptus trees for the national paper company and coffee beans. It is a farming plain used for paper, so the name, Paper Plane, plays on that. Stepping into Montclair’s Paper Plane is a treat, greeted by its distinctive airplane-style seating and unbelievable coffee creations. Read on to discover the magic of Paper Plane and for all the details on the new Maplewood location.

The New Location

Established in Brooklyn in 2015, Paper Plane moved to Montclair in 2019 and will be opening another location at the historic Nelson’s building in downtown Maplewood at 145 Dunnell Road. Founder Jonathan Echeverry, shared the news via Instagram this week. The space is 7,000-square-feet and will come together in phases, per the Paper Planes team.

“We’re hoping to utilize the front lobby almost immediately and modify it to a grab and go window which will allow us to operate while submitting grand plans for the interior,” Paper Plane shared with The Montclair Girl. “Obviously we’re still very much in the conceptual and design phase, and have some grand plans. The town has approved the space for food as well, so we’re hoping to take my (Jonathan) background as a chef to curate a fun but simple food menu.”

About Paper Plane + Its Menu

Paper Plane Coffee

The menu at Paper Plane is like no other. Customers can expect to find mixed coffee, soda, and a multitude of hot chocolate flavors, just to name a few. Jonathan’s imagination exceeds expectations of a seemingly simple cup of coffee. The mouthwatering “Vincent Vega” coffee is a Mexican Coca-Cola mixed with muddled cherry, vanilla, and espresso. If that seems daunting, a more classic coffee, yet still exotic, is the “Sebastián Gómez”, a pour-over coffee aged in rum with notes of dried plums and boozy cranberries. If the menu seems intimidating, you can ask one of the knowledgeable baristas for the perfect drink for you. In addition to coffee, customers can also buy their very own coffee-making equipment, products, totes, mugs, or even a designed poster. And if that’s not enough, the owners have launched a new product line of draft drinks available nationwide.
