When a policy called Code Blue is activated by homeless shelters, it means that those shelters have added additional beds for the unhoused during the winter months when temperatures drop. Frigid winter days are here and those experiencing housing insecurity are in dire need of warm shelter. Essex County recently enacted a Code Blue from Sunday, December 21st at 8PM through Wednesday, December 24th at 8AM. Read on for a list of shelters that act as warming shelters in Essex County, New Jersey.
