Montclair’s annual Zombie Walk will be making its 2025 comeback this fall on October 18th. The event is co-hosted by comic book store East Side Mags and nonprofit organization Indie Arts Montclair. Halloween costumes are encouraged, and attendees can have their zombie makeup done at the event for $5 per person. All proceeds from merchandise sales will benefit Indie Arts Montclair. Montclair’s Annual Zombie Walk
East Side Mags, a local comic book store located at 491 Bloomfield Avenue, hosts the Zombie Walk each year. The first rendition of the event took place in 2017. The store creates new , zombie-themed merchandise commemorating each annual walk, and sale proceeds are donated to local nonprofit organizations co-hosting the event. The 2024 Zombie Walk was previously co-hosted by East Side Mags alongside Indie Arts Montclair, Fresco Artistry, and Out Montclair. This year, the event will be hosted by East Side Mags and Indie Arts Montclair, with “zombowls” from Montclair caterer Notorious BBQ.

The walk starts at 5:30PM, and attendees will “creep, meander, and crawl” their way around Montclair Center. Event organizers also encouraged respectfulness, “Horrifying businesses and patrons alike in a zombie-like but non-aggressive manner,” continuing, “We’re zombies but we’re still respectful others.”
According to the event organizers, the growth of the annual walk has steadily increased year after year, which is why they have brought in “heavy hitter” makeup artists. As of October 16th, the organizers said that there are still available appointments for zombie makeup via Instagram post. There will also be a costume contest judged by Mr Haunt, where participants can have their costumes “zombified” and compete for prizes.

The organization that this year’s Zombie Walk will benefit is Indie Arts Montclair (IAM). Per the organization’s website, Indie Arts Montclair is a 501 (c)(3) nonprofit collective of artists, musicians, and community activists supporting “DIY, local, new, and emerging arts in all disciplines to expand the presence of alternative and outsider arts in Montclair, New Jersey.”
