How to Get There
LIRR
Taking the train is one of the most popular ways to go from New York City to Montauk. The Long Island Railroad (LIRR) offers a route from New York to the Montauk train. Pack a vacation read, sit back, and enjoy the ride out to Montauk.
The Jitney
One of the most convenient parts of vacationing in the Hamptons is the Jitney, a bus route that exclusively serves the Manhattan to Long Island route. Jitney stops are located all throughout the Hamptons. No matter where you go, there’s likely a stop nearby.

One of the most luxurious hotels available to stay at in the Hamptons is located right in Montauk. Right at the entrance of Montauk, visitors are greeted by this state park. With sandy beaches, swimming, biking, camping, and hiking available, this park is a great spot to visit – and the over 100 camping sites make it a fun alternative for lodging. For those looking for a picturesque view of the Atlantic Ocean, Hither Hills State Park is a must-visit.

Visitors can get the true spirit of Montauk through beer. This local brewery has some great beer selections, and be sure to sample the seasonal offerings (especially the pumpkin – it’s delicious!) as well as the staple brews. This is a craft beer fan’s paradise.
Shadmoor State Park | 900 Montauk Highway
Explorers come to this park to enjoy aerial views from trails overlooking the Atlantic Ocean. These breathtaking views are ones that movie scenes are made of. Plus, the hikes along the cliffs at Shadmoor State Park provide outdoor activity during any season.
The Montauk Lighthouse | 2000 Montauk Highway
It is the oldest lighthouse in New York State, and the Montauk Lighthouse is a National Historic Landmark. The Lighthouse was authorized by the Second Congress under President George Washington in 1792. It is located on the easternmost tip of Long Island and is a prime spot for Insta-worthy photos. No trip to Montauk is complete without a visit to The Lighthouse.

Located off the main highway (technically in Amagansett, NY), this popular roadside seafood spot is a great lunch stop for lobster rolls, clam chowder, and other fresh seafood dishes. As you’re approaching Montauk, you’ll be tempted to stop. We highly recommend doing so.
Crow’s Nest | 4 Old West Lake Drive

The Crow’s Nest is one of the ultimate destinations visitors can’t miss. With a menu that includes local lobster fettuccine, grilled organic chicken kebabs, oysters, and more, this restaurant sits on Lake Montauk (yes, that means stunning views) and features seating under outdoor twinkle lights. It truly is a dream.

For anyone on the hunt for authentic, East End seafood, Duryea’s is the place. This classic restaurant features all kinds of seafood dishes, from lobster rolls to oysters, clams, and more. It also has an outdoor market area where visitors can purchase fresh fish to bring home. Bonus: The views at Duryea’s will take your breath away.
Goldberg’s Bagels | 28 South Etna Avenue

While we all know NJ bagels are the best, but Goldberg’s is definitely one of the best options for bagels and tasty brunch food in the Hamptons. There are a few locations throughout the different Hamptons towns. The Montauk location has flagels (flat bagels), along with breakfast sandwiches, bagels sandwiches, and more. After a visit, you’ll be wishing NJ had a Goldberg’s location.
Harvest on Fort Pond | 11 South Emery Street
As New Jerseyans, we also love (and are pretty picky about) our Italian food. But at Harvest on Fort Pond, diners will be blown away with the family-style servings, great views, and overall classic Italian vibes. If this isn’t on the Montauk itinerary already, we recommend adding it.
Joni’s | 28 S Etna Avenue
This low-key spot is a go-to for breakfast or lunch while out in Montauk. It has an extensive menu of breakfast offerings, sandwiches, and salads, including plenty of gluten-free and vegan options. Plus the fresh fruit smoothies and squeezed juices are worth a try.

Our love for local coffee takes on Montauk. Left Hand Coffee is a go-to spot to get a great cup of coffee, cold brew, lattes, and more in the mornings. It’s conveniently located near the center of town to pick up before the busy day ahead.

Directly across from Clam Bar on Montauk Highway is another delicious seafood joint that’s been around since the 1950s. This gem is definitely worth a visit either on the way in or out of the town. This local spot is also technically located in Amagansett, NY – but just moments away from Montauk.
Montauk Bake Shoppe | 29 The Plaza A
This is a laid-back bakery for your morning coffee, fresh bread, and pastry needs. The Montauk Bake Shoppe produces its baked goods on the premises, and it shows (in the best way possible). HG Tip: If you try one thing, it must be the jelly croissants.
The Montauket | 88 Firestone Road
One of the best things to do at any beach is to enjoy a gorgeous sunset with a drink. And The Montauket bar/restaurant/hotel that has been around since the 1920s is a prime place to do so. The classic Montauk attraction boasts epic sunset views overlooking Gardiner Island.

When you come over the hill to Montauk – the Shagwong’s neon lights are one of the first things you’ll see. And it’s fitting: as a Montauk mainstay (and a Hoboken Girl favorite), this local gem is the perfect local spot to grab a cold beer or a cup of clam chowder. The bar/restaurant has been a staple in town since 1936 and has retained the old-school feel of Montauk, which makes it a must-visit.

One of the most famous Montauk spots for celebrities is The Surf Lodge. This spot overlooks Fort Pond and can be challenging to get into. But the live performances and atmosphere should make it a summer bucket list item.
