Popular salad spot in New Jersey, The Salad House, has officially opened its fourth location — this time in Montclair. Located at 18 South Fullerton Avenue, The Salad House has been welcoming customers ever since it opened its doors on January 4th. Read on to learn what owner Jarrod Bravo has to say about The Salad House and its new Montclair location.

About the Grand Opening

Bravo tells The Montclair Girl that he is a partner with the franchise, but this is the first location that he owns. The other locations include Millburn, Morristown, and Westfield, New Jersey.

When asked why Montclair, Bravo shares, “We already have a strong following in Essex County with Millburn because that’s been our first location established in 2011. A lot of people are from West Orange, South Orange, Livingston all these surrounding towns. They all know us, so we picked something just a little bit outside of the range and we just love the city of Montclair and the downtown’s always bustling. There are so many restaurants, so we just thought it would be a great fit for us.”

Although The Salad House has been promoting the Montclair location “coming soon” on the website and on social media, Bravo mentions the franchise “didn’t do too much advertising,” but the new location “still got slammed!”

“It’s been fantastic actually. We actually weren’t prepared for our opening weekend. We didn’t realize just how busy it was going to be, and we did a soft opening,” the owner says. “The town’s been very supportive and we’ve already built regulars in the two weeks. We’ve seen some faces seven [or] eight times, so it’s been fantastic.”

The Menu

The Salad House specializes in customized and signature salad creations that are handmade-to-order in the restaurant. Per the description, the food is described as “health-conscious comfort food,” delivering the “finest fresh veggies, fruits, nuts, cheeses, and meats.” All the soups and signature salad dressings are made from scratch. Plus, the salad shop even makes the bacon bits from real bacon.

Offering a wide selection of salads, sandwiches, and wraps, housemade salads, avocado toast, and smoothies, The Salad House has options for everybody even if patrons prefer vegetarian, vegan, or gluten-free.

At the moment, owner Bravo says the top two selling salads are the fiesta chicken {romaine lettuce, blackened chicken, corn, avocado, tomatoes, black beans, and cheddar cheese with Lil Kick chipotle dressing} and the seasonal special warm teriyaki bowl {brown rice, sauteed spinach, teriyaki glazed shrimp, red peppers, carrots, broccoli, onions, and celery}.

As far as the sandwiches and wraps, the top two are the sweet heat {crispy chicken cutlet, pepper jack, onions, tomatoes, and chipotle aioli with a drizzle of Mike’s Hot Honey} and the crispy mutha clucka {barbecue chicken, applewood smoked bacon, iceberg, frizzled onions, and cheddar with ranch dressing}. “We’ve got some funky names on there,” Bravo quips.

Future Plans

In the future, The Salad House will be opening two additional locations.

“If everything goes to plan, our Livingston location is going to be opening on February 1st,” Bravo shares. “In about six months we’ll probably have Englewood opened. We just signed the lease that’ll be our first Bergen County location.”

The current hours of operation at the Montclair operation are Monday to Friday 9AM to 9PM, Saturday 11AM to 7:30PM, and Sunday 11AM to 4PM.

Bravo adds, “We are going to do extended hours in the summer because we are having an outdoor patio built right on the side of our building that’s going to have eight tables.”

For now, patrons can pick up creations in-store or have them delivered via Uber Eats, DoorDash, or Grubhub. The Salad House also has its own app available on the app store to download for placing an order and earning rewards.
