A new Target is expected to open March 15, 2026 at 235 Prospect Avenue in West Orange. Construction appears to be wrapping up as the iconic red Target balls have been put in place by the store’s entrance. Keep reading to learn more about the Target opening in West Orange.

According to the Target website, the West Orange location will be approximately 150,000 square feet. The West Orange location will be the 53rd Target in New Jersey and the second location in Essex County, the other being in Fairfield.

The Target will be located at 235 Prospect Avenue in the West Orange Plaza shopping center. The new West Orange Target is taking over the old Kmart space, which closed in 2020 and was used as a vaccination site during the Coronavirus pandemic. The West Orange Plaza is home to a local shop, Frank’s Pizza, and other chains like Chipotle and Whole Foods.
Recent updates as of February 2026 indicate the target is scheduled to open on March 15, 2026. Several job listings for the West Orange location have been posted on the Target website. Among these job openings is a Starbucks barista, so customers can expect a Starbucks in the new West Orange location. You can find these job postings here.
The addition of the Target includes an expansion of the original property. The new Target is part of a larger development plan from Levin Management, which will add eight more buildings to the West Orange Plaza, including two drive-through businesses.
