With warmer weather and longer days, New Jerseyians sometimes need to find a good excuse to get outside. Sometimes summer work hours can be daunting, but having some fun activities to look forward to on weekends or after work can help. Northern New Jersey is nothing short of adult sporting leagues. Whether it’s planning for Softball Sundays, or playing volleyball indoors on those rainy days, there are plenty of opportunities to stay active this summer. Heyday Athletic | Multiple Locations
While most of the HeyDay Athletic leagues take place in Central Jersey, there are two fields in Bernards that flirt with the Northern + Central NJ border. One field, Mountain Park, is reserved for kickball + softball. The other field, also a part of Mountain Park, is an outdoor turf field for soccer. This summer there will be two leagues available. Softball is on Wednesday evenings and begins on June 19th. Kickball is on Tuesday evenings and begins on June 25th.
Hive Athletic | Multiple Locations
Hive Athletic is a sporting league that prides itself on bringing a sense of community with fun. Players will be regularly updated with weather issues, have access to all-star referees, punctual start times, and quick responses to questions + concerns. Some of the summer sports available at Hive Athletic are volleyball, kickball, softball, football, dodgeball, pickleball, soccer, cornhole, + more. The majority of sports take place in Hudson County cities such as Jersey City, Hoboken, + Weehawken.

Montclair State University Ice Arena | 1 Arena Drive, Little Falls
If looking to beat the heat on those hot summer days, try visiting the Montclair State University Ice Arena. Whether a new hobbyist or a seasoned skater, this arena has options for all levels + all ages. Skating options include Learn to Skate, Adult Hockey Leagues, Drop-In or Open Hockey, + Public Skating (skaters can bring their own skates or rent them at the front desk).
NJ Coed Sports | Multiple Locations

NJ Coed Sports has sports like soccer + “Turf Wars II” (a kickball league tournament) happening in June. Soccer is available for coed (8 v 8 and 11 v 11) and for men (8 v 8, 11 v 11, and a competitive 8 v 8 league). Soccer is available Sunday through Thursday. The kickball league will be on Thursdays. NJ Play Sports Community | Multiple Locations
NJ Play Sports has sporting events available in Clifton, Hudson County, Morristown, + Wayne. Current openings are coed softball + indoor volleyball starting on June 10th, kickball, soccer, + sand volleyball starting on June 11th. More options can be found on the site’s Schedules + Standings page. There are currently starting dates for leagues throughout June + July.
No Idea Sports | Multiple Locations

No Idea Sports has a dozen sports to choose from. Some options are classics like volleyball, basketball, soccer, flag football, + kickball. What makes No Idea Sports stand out is the scheduling of arguably less popular league sports such as bocce ball, cornhole, floor hockey, + skeeball. Current summer opinions include soccer, floor hockey, + softball.
Powerzone | 3 Luger Road, Denville
If looking to improve in volleyball, look no further than Powerzone in Denville. this facility has made it all about volleyball since its 1996 opening. Options for adults include Open gyms (similar to a drop-in play session), club volleyball, camps, and tournaments, + it also hosts league games in the facility. Open gyms are available six days a week. League volleyball occurs four nights a week through No Idea Sports + Volo Sports found on Powerzone’s website.
Sideout Sports | 26 Law Drive Suite A, Fairfield

Sideout Sports opened its doors in 2009. Since then, this facility has been dedicated to growing the volleyball community. For those looking to get some movement in after a full workday, try the Thursday evening open gym. Adults 18+ can play volleyball from 10PM until midnight. There is also the option for court rentals at a one-hour, three-hour, or daily rate.

Volo | Morristown

Volo has sports leagues in about a dozen locations nationwide. Its New Jersey location exists in Morristown. Volo’s mission encourages adults to get out and play, to hang out with old friends, make new ones, and try something new, all while getting in a workout. Sports teams available for the summer are volleyball, pickleball, basketball, flag football, soccer, + kickball. Volo has options for membership pricing or drop-ins where players can pay per game.
