History of Pharmacie + The Wellmont Theater
The Wellmont Theater opened its doors back on June 16th, 1922 on the corner of Seymour Street and Bloomfield Avenue. It served as a venue for stage plays and vaudeville performances, honing major acts of the time like Charlie Chaplin. By 1929, The Wellmont Theater changed course and converted into a motion picture theater. And again in the 1980s, the Wellmont converted into a triplex theater, focusing on independent films.

Pharmacie Bar + Kitchen gets its name from the original establishment adjacent to The Wellmont Theater, the Pharmacie soda shop. When the Wellmont Theater was converted in the 1980s, the entrance facing Bloomfield Avenue moved to Seymour Street and the original Italian marbled lobby had become a diner – which is where Pharmacie Bar + Kitchen resides today.
About Pharmacie Bar + Kitchen
This music-themed establishment welcomes guests with its vintage-inspired atmosphere, exposed brick, black and white tile, and classic marble — paying homage to its 1980s counterpart. Pharmacie is split level with two separate bars on each floor and an entrance into the Wellmont lobby up top.
Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, Pharmacie Bar + Kitchen was forced to close its doors. In March earlier this year, Pharmacie reopened with the following announcement: “Can you believe it’s been 2 years since we last served you? Well, wait no more. Pharmacie Bar + Kitchen is back and we are very excited to serve you!”
While Pharmacie regains its footing in a post-pandemic world, its kitchen will remain closed as the team works to relaunch a new and exciting menu. We’re all eagerly staying tuned for that.
Pharmacie is open from 5PM daily, Wednesday through Saturday and coincides with all shows at the Wellmont Theater which serves as a gathering spot for pre-show drinks. Pharmacie serves a variety of delicious handcrafted cocktails, cold craft beer, and carefully-curated wine selections.
Don’t miss out on Mezcal Mondays either. Once a month, Pharmacie hosts Café No Sé: An Illegal Mezcal Pop-up. John Rexer opened Café No Sé in Antigua, Guatemala in the early 2000s and it has since become the beating heart for the international music scene. The team with Illegal Mezcal is bringing the vibe from Guatemala into Montclair right at Pharmacie. Check out more information here.
