While going to the movies in real life may seem like a distant memory after the past nearly two years, movie theaters have been open and are ready for patrons to visit. Whether you are looking for a theater with reclining seats, a location that brings a full meal right to your chair, or maybe you just want to feel the old-school movie theater feel, there is a theater that fits the vibe. Many theaters are encouraging the use of masks too, and are also following local and state Covid-19 guidelines. AMC Aviation 12 | 1200 South Stiles Street, Linden

If standard digital screenings aren’t enough, this AMC theater has 3D and Imax theaters. Some theaters even have the AMC signature recliners to reserve and put your feet up while enjoying a recently released flick. Although it’s in Union County, this one is worth the drive.

AMC Clifton Commons 16 | 405 Route 3 East, Clifton

There’s no need to get in line extra early at this theater, because all seats are reserved seating, with some recliners available. Patrons can also get discounts on matinees and tickets on Tuesday. Other great AMC theaters include AMC Mountainside 10, AMC Ridgefield Park 12, AMC Wayne 14, AMC Dine-In Shops at Riverside, and AMC Garden State 16.

This classic AMC theater has all the usual perks found at AMC locations. Audiences can also dine at the theater with meals delivered right to their reserved seats. There are a ton of food options to choose from on the menu.

AMC Jersey Gardens 20 | 651 Kapkowski Road, Elizabeth

Head over to Elizabeth to see the latest releases either in standard or IMAX theaters. Make sure to reserve your spot to get the best seat in the house. Patrons can also get discounts on matinees and tickets on Tuesday.

AMC Newport Centre 11 | 30-300 Mall Drive West, Jersey City

Looking for a break from shopping? Head up to the top floor of the Newport Centre mall to the AMC theater. It shows films in 3D, IMAX, and standard theaters. Patrons can order drinks via mobile order, and tickets are discounted on Tuesdays for AMC Stubs members, which readers can join here.

Bergenfield Cinemas | 58 South Washington Avenue, Bergenfield

This family-owned theater is right in the heart of Bergenfield. Ticket prices are $5 before 6PM and then $7 for adults and $6 for children and seniors in the evening. People can also schedule birthday parties with private screenings. See here for more information.

This theater is co-owned by Boraie Development and former NBA superstar Shaquille O’Neal, who is from Newark. It uses digital projection for all movies and has game rooms and party rooms to rent. Reach out for more information via the website.

Cranford Theater | 25 North Avenue West, Cranford

Head to The Cranford Theater to see new releases and classic films alike. There are seasonal offers of popcorn gift packs with delicious movie treats, making your movie-going experience even better. Check the website for various seasonal events, like the pajama series.

IPIC Theater | 2023 Hudson Street, Fort Lee

This theater is a destination to enjoy more than just a movie. Visitors can also try different cuisines and cocktails either in the theater or at City Perch Kitchen + Bar. Check the website for more information on how to become a member and score things like 10% off food and beverage.

ShowPlace ICON Kerasotes ShowPlace 14 | 650 Plaza Drive, Secaucus

Another theater that allows patrons to choose their seats beforehand is ShowPlace ICON. Plus, all of the chairs are recliners – major win. Select movies are even shown in 3D. Check the website for private screenings and private gaming opportunities here.

After reopening in 2013, this hometown theater has tried to keep its history alive for patrons to enjoy. It shows the most recent releases too. All tickets are $6 until 4 pm each day, and then $9 for adults and $8 for kids and seniors.

The Clairidge | 486 Bloomfield Avenue, Montclair

After first opening in 1922, this historic movie theater still aims to bring audiences the most premier movie-going experience possible. After additional renovations and reopening in October 2021, this six theater establishment now shows an assortment of new releases. Check the website for more information on becoming a member and what benefits it gives you (like discounted tickets and concessions).

The Village | 1 SOPAC Way, South Orange

Part of the South Orange Performing Arts Center, this movie theater is powered by CinemaLab experience and shows a wide array of films, as well as alternate programming. For $99 patrons can get unlimited movies for you and a guest through March 2022. If customers are looking for something more than just popcorn, there are also empanadas by Mit Miti available, along with other usual concessions.
