The joy of love and the pain of heartache are two parts of life many can relate to, and a Montclair-based composer and theater creator is bringing her musical based on those emotions to New York City. Spiral Bound, a musical created by Miranda Ferriss Jones, will be showing at the Lincoln Center Atrium on Saturday, December 6. The show has deep connections to Montclair and explores the highs and lows of love and loss. Read on to learn about the Montclair-based artist and the musical showing in New York City.
About The Artist
Miranda Ferriss Jones is a songwriter, theater creator, and performer. She was born and raised in Vermont and studied at the London Academy of Dramatic Arts and Yale University. Miranda says she draws inspiration for her stories from her multicultural upbringing and biracial identity, and her work focuses on feminine identity and explores the spaces between binaries.

As a songwriter, her music has been brought to life by performers such as Laura Benanti, Micaela Diamond, and Andrea Macasaet.
About The Show
Spiral Bound has an amazing female cast, band, and production team. The musical is based on poems written by Richard Edelman, a sculptor and poet, from 1967 to 1974. These poems were interpreted through the lens of Miranda’s own experiences, creating a series of musical vignettes of good old-fashioned love and heartache.

Each song is sung by a woman, calling on relatable memories of young crushes on playgrounds, teenage summers, and the passion of twenty-somethings dating in the city. The songs blend different genres, fusing modern indie folk, classic pop, blues, and musical theater. According to The Montclair Pod, more than 15 Montclair mothers created props for the show, including hand-collaged notebooks.

It’s a 90-minute show with original music and selections by Carole King and Erykah Badu. It was brought to life with the Montclair Theater Project, premiering at the Montclair Art Museum. The musical then went on to show at Joe’s Pub in New York City in 2023 and Racket NYC in 2024. This performance at The David Rubenstein Atrium at Lincoln Center is on Saturday, December 6, from 7:30 to 9:00 PM. Tickets to the show are free and available on a first-come, first-served basis.
