The second Sunday of May is quickly approaching, and it’s time to honor the wife, mom, aunt, grandmother, sister, and friend who means so much to us for Mother’s Day. While late-morning brunch seems to be popular, there are other creative options to celebrate Mother’s Day alone or with loved ones. Whether it’s been a busy year or that special someone just wants a day to themselves, this list has a “me time” day covered and options for tagging along, too. For Those Who Are Active

BCAS Mother's Day at Teaneck Creek Conservatory | 20 Puffin Way, Teaneck

This nature walk provides a chance to spend outdoors in a chill setting on May 11th, from 10AM-12PM. The goal is to take a stroll and appreciate the nature surrounding walkers. The walk is open to all ages, and will take place rain or shine. For those interested, donations can be made to the Teaneck Creek Conservatory (TCC). Registration is recommended for this event.

Bury the Hatchet | 672 Bloomfield Avenue, Bloomfield

This axe-throwing establishment has options available for one-hour sessions for $32. At this spot, guests can find a space to sit + chat, or play games like Jenga, foosball, + giant Connect Four. There are also package options that include items other than axes, such as stars, spears, + more to throw at targets. Bury the Hatchet is also BYOB, so moms and their guests are welcome to bring their beverage of choice.

The Greens Golf Lounge | 459 Bloomfield Avenue, Caldwell

The Greens Golf Lounge is a fun spot to bring friends (and mothers). The indoor golf spot has Golfzon TwoVision simulators, which include a moving swing plate that allows for 6,800 possible lies on a multi-surface hitting mat, as well as four golf bays — 2 righty and 2 righty + lefty setups.

JC Families Mother’s Day Celebration | Hamilton Park, Jersey City

The JC Families Mother’s Day Celebration will be held in Hamilton Park from 4PM-7PM on Friday May 9th. Guests can enjoy the sunset while experiencing arts + crafts, cookie decorating, food vendors, + more. This event is great if looking to celebrate with little ones after school, as there will also be a puppet show by My Gym Children’s Fitness Center.

Mother’s Day Open Swim at Five Star Swim School | 1655 Oak Tree Road, Edison

Moms swim free at Five Star Swim School on May 11th from 3PM to 4PM. If unable to make it to this location, Five Star Swim School has other locations across NJ in Cherry Hill, Deptford, East Brunswick, East Hanover, Galloway, and Princeton, and one in Lehigh Valley, PA. Sunday Morning Fitness Hike at Schiff Nature Preserve | 239 Pleasant Valley Road, Mendham

Hiking lovers can find access to a Sunday Morning Fitness hike on Sunday, May 11th at 9AM at the Schiff Nature Preserve. This hike will cover five miles of varied terrain. The hike is for adults only, free for members of the preserve, and $10 for nonmembers. Leashed dogs are also welcome.

Doin’ Dishes is an arts + crafts staple in Montclair Center, where students can create together. Ceramic options include mugs, plates, business card holders, tiles, + more. There are also adult classes on Thursday evenings from 6:30PM to 8PM, with an experienced ceramics painter.

The Eclectic Chic Boutique | 547 Bloomfield Avenue, Montclair

The Eclectic Chic Boutique, known for its handmade goods and crafty classes, will host a Mother’s Day Jewelry Making Party on May 11th from 3PM to 4PM.
