It’s no secret that Montclair is a hub for restaurants with all kinds of cuisines. Now, something new is being cooked up. World renowned iron chef, Masaharu Morimoto, is opening a new restaurant called MM by Morimoto at 193 Glenridge Avenue with a pretty unique vision — and we got a sneak peek. Keep reading for all the deets on MM by Morimoto, opening on Thursday, July 31st in Montclair, New Jersey.

The Details
Chef Masaharu Morimoto is taking his culinary vision to life in the 12,779-square-foot space that is MM by Morimoto, which will be shared with the Montclair community on Thursday, July 31st. The Chef has partnered with Montclair Hospitality Group, founded by Luck Sarabhayavanij, the same face behind Ani Ramen and pastaRAMEN. Upon visiting, the restaurant had a spacious, sultry ambience with a DJ in-house to keep the vibes going.

The restaurant will feature an omakase bar with fish flown from Japan, Japanese and Australian Wagyu, USDA Prime steak, and signature dishes like Tuna Pizza, Toro Tartare, and A5 Wagyu Carpaccio, just to name a few. We tried the skirt steak with the béarnaise sauce on the side, and it melted in our mouth. We also indulged in the sushi as well as the shrimp + oysters and were amazed at how fresh it all tasted.

After its official opening, the restaurant will launch takeaway sushi boxes for those who prefer to order in. The restaurant will also have a full bar with wine, sake, and cocktails, as well as over 200 seats, but be sure to act fast, as reservations are already live on Resy as of July 16th.
About Chef Masaharu Morimoto

MM by Morimoto is not Chef Morimoto’s first appearance in the culinary world. After opening his first restaurant in 2001 in Philadelphia, the Chef now has restaurants all over the map in both the US and the world in places like Honolulu, Mumbai, Tokyo, and Maui. Readers might also recognize the Chef’s name from Iron Chef and Iron Chef America, where Chef Morimoto was the star. Now, in addition to this latest project, Chef Morimoto is also the executive producer and head judge for Roku’s Sushi Master. And in addition to all that, the Chef also has two cookbooks, one of which has won multiple awards.
“I’m happy to officially open our doors in Montclair,” Chef Morimoto said via a press release. “This restaurant showcases the premium ingredients and culinary techniques I am passionate about. I’m excited to share this unique dining experience with this wonderful New Jersey community.”
