Let’s face it — we are all guilty of getting caught up in the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Sometimes, we get so caught up that it feels impossible to sit down and have dinner with our family. Family Supper, located at 870 Broad Street in Bloomfield, is on a mission to make dinner meaningful again — a mission we’re all about at The Montclair Girl. This new venture, launched by Dig Inn co-founder, Andrew Jacobson, blends the heart of a neighborhood restaurant with the convenience of a meal service to deliver dinner right to your home. Read on to learn more about Family Supper in Bloomfield and how they’re redefining family-style dinners in Northern New Jersey.
How It Works
Family Supper provides family-style, oven-ready meals that make it easy for families to gather around the table for a home-cooked meal. Dinners can be customized for two, four, or six people or can be ordered a la carte.
These classic, simple meals are cooked with fresh ingredients each day by the in-house chef and are ready to be heated in your oven and on the table in 30 minutes. With gluten-free, nut-free, and seed-oil-free meals, you’ll feel good about what you’re putting on the table for the fam.
“We’re the love child of a neighborhood restaurant + a meal service,” Andrew shared with The Montclair Girl about the new Bloomfield venture. “You can plan ahead and order delivery or pickup a week in advance. And on those days when you’re caught flat footed with dinner prep, you can order until 5:30PM and come say hi because we have a kitchen with soul.”
We recently got a chance to taste-test the meals (actual pics above — everything was DELISH) and prepared fresh, in-house.
Editor’s note: As someone gluten-free/celiac, it was so incredible to be able to eat basically everything that was boxed (normally not the case, even with meal delivery and prep for me!). Favorite standout dishes were plantains, mushroom meatballs, rice and beans, and beef.
Honestly, everything tasted incredible, and ideal for a busy family or person looking to up their whole foods game and not just order takeout on a whim every night.
You can order up to six days in advance or as late as 5:30PM on the same day. The Bloomfield team will cook your meal on-site and have your fresh meal ready for pick up between 4PM and 6PM or out for doorstep delivery (you do not have to be home to receive the meals) between 3PM and 6PM — making it super easy to pick up or order ahead, especially if you have a family or want to plan your meals for the week.
The local team delivers across Essex County and surrounding towns. To see if you’re in the delivery zone, visit the website.
The Menu + What to Order
Tiana and Andrew started Family Supper because they missed eating dinner together as a family. Having had that ritual growing up, the duo decided that it was time to help themselves and other families do the same.
“It’s special when a shared meal hits the table and you can feel the household coming together as one,” Tiana and Andrew shared. “We love giving our guests that moment.”
Family Supper’s menu is filled with home-cooked meals that not only bring families together but also nourish the body and feel good to eat. All the food at Family Supper is gluten-free and the local team event shares a dietary and allergen info chart to help those with any food allergies or dietary restrictions.
With entrees like mushroom meatballs, roast chicken, and slow-cooked beef, there’s something for everyone on the menu. To complement each entree, choose from delectable + healthy sides like broccoli, cauliflower, carrots, and a sweet potato bake (yum!). These hearty but nourishing sides are great compliments to the classic dinners. And who could forget the starchy sides, which include maduros, rice and beans, smashed potatoes, and sweet corn polenta.
Of course, the kitchen also has shells and cheese made with a four-blend cheese, garlic confit panko crust — a popular side at Family Supper — and delicious sauces for dipping. Meals are cooked and ready to go into the oven for reheating.
Family Supper also recently launched its frozen STOCKPILE line that includes dishes like a classic lasagna, slow-cooked beef, Italian sausage, and more. A vegetarian lasagna is also coming soon. “We wanted to give customers an ace up their sleeve to pull out of the freezer when they need something warm and comforting on the table that the kids will also enjoy,” Tiana and Andrew said.

A Family-Owned Spot We Love
Owners Tiana Thomas and Andrew Jacobson started Family Supper with one goal in mind — to bring back the ritual of the family dinners they grew up with. Of course, as life got ahead of them and days became busier with work, kids, and extracurriculars, sitting down with their own families became more difficult.
“We really wanted to help families bring classic, simple, and expertly prepared food to their tables at home so they can create their own rituals of coming together and make sure they feel good eating it,” Tiana and Andrew said.
So, Tiana and Andrew decided to make dinners together a priority – home-cooking without the cooking. The result was an approachable, everyday meal service that feels like home. It takes the heavy lifting work out of a monotonous task, allowing families to gather around the table together to enjoy a meal and memories together. And for those looking for an easy and convenient way to plan meals for the week, Family Supper has got you covered.
