With the warmer weather approaching, add another spot to the growing list of sweet treat spots in Montclair: 16 Handles is opening on May 11th. Located at 42 South Park Street, the new frozen yogurt spot is opening in the Essex County area — and announced the news via press release. About 16 Handles
16 Handles is no rookie when it comes to frozen yogurt, as the first store opened up in Manhattan’s East Village in 2008, becoming the first self-serve froyo spot in New York City. Since then, the brand has branched out with over 30 locations across the United States. The menu consists of frozen yogurt, ice cream, toppings, drinks, and other treats. More recently, vegan options have been available.

The Montclair shop is owned and operated by Tamara Hamilton as she had been a regular at the 16 Handles in NYC. Once the pandemic hit, she decided a career change was needed and turned toward her favorite treat. The road was not easy as she took courses for entrepreneurship and business, and her passion only grew as she became invigorated to open up her own 16 Handles franchise.

Tamara said in a press release, “If someone would have told me 10 years ago that I would be a business-owner, I would not have believed them. Being a first-generation immigrant, the dream of owning a business has always been close to my heart but felt unattainable.” She continued “Seeing my entrepreneurial dream come to life with 16 Handles is incredibly exciting. I am so appreciative to be able to grow with this incredible and neighborly community as 16 Handles opens its first location in Montclair.”
The 16 Handles in Montclair will have its grand opening on May 11 with a ribbon cutting ceremony at 12PM. A free cup of frozen yogurt will be provided to the first 100 guests at the event as well as special discounts throughout the day and weekend. There will also be live music, face painting, and other fun activities.

16 Handles houses 16 different soft serve flavors and over 50 toppings and sauces. A variation of frozen treats such as cakes, pints of frozen yogurt, and cookie dough are in-house as well. Vegan, nonfat, and no sugar added are other flavors that have been introduced, and the 16 flavors are listed from classic to all different combinations including anything from vanilla and chocolate, to cinnamon apple pie and toasty marshmallow.
