One of our favorite ways to explore Montclair is to spend an entire day on a single street. This might sound familiar: earlier this year, we launched a Street Series with full-day itineraries for Bloomfield Avenue, Church Street, Walnut Street, and counting. While a DIY adventure is never a bad idea, a South Orange-based food tour company is making things a bit more official. This Saturday, September 21st, Chow Town Food Tours is hosting its first-ever Montclair experience, inviting locals to a two-and-a-half-hour walking tour through Walnut Street’s most beloved eateries. In partnership with Experience Montclair, benefitting the Montclair History Center, the tour kicks off at 3PM and will see four local restaurants and various historic landmarks. After the inaugural event this weekend, the tours will run regularly throughout the year. Keep reading to learn more about the Walnut Street Food Tour coming to Montclair this weekend.

We won’t spoil anything, but participating locals can expect a range of indulgences from pizza and doughnuts to pub fare and craft beers. Tickets are $75 per person and are required, with proceeds benefitting the Montclair History Center. You can purchase tickets here.
The team shared that they plan to offer more tours over the next few months, some seasonal and holiday-themed. You can keep up with the schedule on Chow Town’s website or Instagram page.
About Chow Town Food Tours
Experienced teacher and community advocate Max Gray is the owner and founder of Chow Town Food Tours. Born and raised in Morris County, he became a foodie from all of the different kinds of cuisines that exist in such a short distance. Inspired by the local eateries and their owners, Max started making a business out of giving weekly food tours in South Orange this past summer. “Chow Town Food Tours showcases the people as much as the food – the chefs, restaurant workers, patrons, and community members that make the food such a joy to experience,” Max told The Montclair Girl in an interview earlier this summer. “Every meal has a story behind it. We want to reveal that story and share it with the community!”
We embarked on a South Orange food tour earlier this summer, where we joined nine other guests to explore the Route 510 area of town. The experience is well worth the price: as rich in flavor as it is in history, the tour was a great way to try new restaurants, meet new people, and learn new history about the places we call home.
