Donating unused items is a great way to declutter, minimize, and make room for new pieces while supporting your local community. However, not everyone has the time or resources, like a truck, to get their donations to the right place. Here at MG, we did the work and found several businesses and nonprofits that will pick up your donations. Whether you're saying goodbye to clothing, furniture, appliances, or electronics, there are options. Read on to learn about seven New Jersey businesses + organizations that pick up your donations.
Freecycle
Freecycle is a grassroots movement of over 5,000 communities engaging in free peer-to-peer item exchanges. Anyone can join by signing up and joining whichever group location pages you desire. There are groups for Essex County, Hunterdon County, Morristown, Clifton, Wayne, Jersey City, Hoboken, Hackensack, and Franklin in Sussex County. One does not have to be a resident of a specific area and can join as many groups as they please. You can provide items or ask for items within the groups, and can arrange pick-up or drop-off. Available items range, but have included bed frames, sewing kits, shoes, dining tables, and bicycles.

Jersey Girl Thrift

Junk Guys NJ
Junk Guys NJ is a full-service junk removal company. Whether you’re moving and need to get rid of extra stuff, or you just did some much-needed spring cleaning in your home, Junk Guys can help. Junk Guys will pick up old furniture, appliances, electronics, tires, construction debris, or yard waste all at a low price. Your items will be recycled, donated, and responsibly disposed of.
Morris ReStore
The first ReStore opened in Canada in 1991. Three years later, Kathy Hourihan, a recycling coordinator for the Morris County Municipal Utilities Authority, proposed the idea of a ReStore to the Morris Habitat board. Eventually, this idea came to fruition in 2007, and a location was opened in Mine Hill. In 2012, it moved to its current location in Randolph. The sales from these stores help Habitat for Humanity partner with local families to build, rehabilitate, and repair safe and affordable homes.
Donations to Morris ReStore can be dropped off or picked up. Pickups are primarily for residents of Morris County, but can extend to non-Morris County residents in North Jersey. Acceptable donations include furniture, appliances, clothing, doors, lawnmowers, new windows, handbags, and appliances. See the full list here. On the day of pickup, all items must be easily accessible for the drivers and located on either the first or ground floor, in a garage, or accessible via an elevator.

In New Jersey, Pickup Please accepts donations on behalf of the Vietnam Veterans of America of New Jersey, which helps support veterans in the Garden State. The Salvation Army provides free donation pick-ups through this online inquiry form. Possible donations can include clothing, furniture, bikes, books, and appliances. The Warehouse NJ helps individuals and families who have experienced homelessness to successfully transition into their new apartment with donated furniture, household items, and other essential needs. This organization will pick up furniture in Summit, Millburn, Chatham, Madison, Maplewood, Union, Springfield or the Oranges with a minimum donation of $50.
