Caldwell Flowerland is a family-run floral shop that’s been in business for 40 years. While it’s been a longtime staple of Caldwell, it’s evolved in recent years to bring a new kind of event space to the community. The Vine Room, co-located with Caldwell Flowerland at 329 Bloomfield Avenue, is an intimate venue for special occasions held against a gorgeous floral backdrop. The Vine Room has been open for just shy of three years and is growing in popularity for events like bridal and baby showers, evening cocktail parties, and intimate micro-weddings. About The Vine Room
While Caldwell Flowerland historically held events, changes have been afoot since January 2022. At that time, Caldwell Flowerland gave up hosting events, and The Vine Room was opened to take advantage of the event space. Christine Forte, the founder of Forte Design, came on as the Creative Director for the newly formed entity.
Christine has a background in art directing and founded Forte Design in 2019. She used her artist’s eye to expand the business into event design, which is how she opened The Vine Room. Her sister-in-law, Jenna Forte, an Essex County-based interior designer, helped to renovate the space.

The goal of the renovation was to keep the integrity of the flower shop intact while creating an updated, dedicated event space. The result is a cozy, brick-walled room with twinkle lights hanging from the ceiling and ornate details matching the elegant setting. The Vine Room is in the front of the space, while Caldwell Flowerland is in the back. The Vine Room’s seating capacity is 80 people seated comfortably with minimal decor and 90-100 with lowtop/high-top tables throughout.

The events held at The Vine Room are more formal than those previously hosted at Caldwell Flowerland, and Christine takes great pride in creating and adapting to individual needs and budgets. She’s the in-house planner, bringing her event design expertise from her company, Forte Design. The Vine Room is a boutique experience with personalized touches down to designing the room layout, setting up dessert displays and grazing tables, and providing decor items across the space to make each event even more personalized.

“I’ve been working with clients directly since opening The Vine Room and have already done over 300 events,” Christine told The Montclair Girl. “Every client has different needs, with some being more hands-on than others, and we’re able to cater to it all. I’m so happy with how the community has received The Vine Room so far and that people continue wanting to host their special days with us.”
The Flowers
Christine wanted floral elements to shine through, hence the name The Vine Room. The room features subtle vine and floral-inspired details like vines wrapping around the light fixture by the bar and peeking out in corners of the room. The two businesses are wholly separate entities, but certainly having a flower shop on site makes it easy for guests to have their pick of florals.

According to Christina Males, Designer and Owner of Caldwell Flowerland, “The Vine Room events are wonderful for Caldwell Flowerland as they’ve truly helped us express our creative side with any size event. The idea of having a personal florist in-house for any of your needs is truly a special touch.”

Caldwell Flowerland prioritizes bringing the client’s ideas to life. Christina starts with the style and designs that the client is looking for to ensure that the flowers match the event’s tone. She believes there is a flower design for anyone no matter the budget, especially since everything is custom designed. Christina and Caldwell Flowerland specialize in centerpiece design, DIY floral bars so that guests can make bouquets to take home (which is most requested), floral champagne buckets and ice cubes for accent decor, seating chart bud vases, cake gardens, and suspended floral installations.
What’s Next
As The Vine Room grows, Christine plans to hire project managers to continue having one person in charge of each event. She’ll continue overseeing while the project managers will handle all client communications. “It’s important that as we grow, we do not lose our connection to clients and continue to be a one-stop-shop for people planning their events.” Prospective hosts can learn more by filling out a consultation form to start working with the team.

In addition to holding private parties, The Vine Room will soon announce a calendar of monthly ticketed events for adults and children. The events will mostly be tied to major holidays, like Galentine’s Day for adults and Halloween and Christmas for kids. The Vine Room is also involved with community events like the Caldwell Street Fair and the town’s Christmas tree lighting. The full calendar will be available on The Vine Room’s website and Instagram soon.
