5 Tips to Kickstart Your Health

The RDs at Culina Health are passionate about helping each client and work one-on-one with individuals to deliver evidence-based nutrition education and help people address everything from chronic health conditions like diabetes, high blood pressure, and depression, to fertility, general weight loss, and even preparation for athletic competitions. Looking ahead, Culina Health has tips for getting your health on track — from a professional you can trust.

1. Supplement Your Diet

The Ivy at Chatham

As we head back to school and work in the fall, it can be tough to adjust to a new routine. It’s easier to stay stress-free and regular with a Calm bite from GEM, a plant-based multivitamin. Magnesium is believed to help with heart health, bone health, inflammation and can also help with anxiety. Taking calm before bed can help you drift to sleep and regulate your GI tract. Vanessa is on GEM’s scientific advisory board and recommends the Calm bites to her clients who are having trouble with regular bowel movements. Culina Health and GEM are giving The Montclair Girl readers 50% off their first order of GEM.

2. Back to Routine

School is back in session and summer trips are over — meaning it’s a great time to get into a good routine, which includes meal planning. Taking time to write down your health goals and meal plan accordingly helps make realizing these goals so much easier. With roughly 30 breakfasts and 30 dinners in a month, it’s a lot to plan — and sitting down to do it all at once will cut out the decision-making process later.

3. Rule of 3 for the Week

Plan three breakfasts and three mains that you can have for the week. Batch cook them at the start of the week and portion them out so you have homemade meals ready for the times most of us eat at home — breakfast and dinner — without the daily hassle of cooking.

4. Find an Exercise Buddy

Call a local friend and hold each other accountable to morning walks, classes, or whatever you both are into. Stay consistent and disciplined to keep your exercise routine throughout the season. If you get bored with a certain routine, switch it up, but consistency is key.

5. Pre-Start Your Day

Set your alarm 10 minutes early to create space to mentally prepare for the day. When you start with centering yourself and meditating, it can set a balanced tone for the rest of the day to help boost productivity and create a clear mindset.

About GEM

When GEM founder Sara Cullen realized she wasn’t getting the daily nutrition she needed despite her healthy diet, she teamed up with an array of scientists, doctors, herbalists, academics, farmers, and dietitians — including Culina Health co-founder Vanessa Rissetto — to reinvent the idea of the plant-based multivitamin. Ultimately, she created the first-ever real food alternative to a daily multivitamin – the GEM multi-bite.

Founded in 2018, GEM is designed to support the simple philosophy that food is medicine. Supplements can often consist of more filler than substance so GEM opted for daily nutrition straight from its source: real food. Made from a blend of plant-based whole foods, vitamins, minerals, and super nutrients, GEM fills the gaps in your diet without synthetic binders, artificial colorants, or animal byproducts. The GEM multi-bite is an indulgent and simple way to get the nutrients you need from ingredients your body can actually absorb.
