In preparation for the oncoming winter months and holiday season, Essex County will make COVID booster shots available at a number of locations. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), adults need to wait at least six months after taking the second shot of Pfizer or Moderna and two months after the J&J vaccine in order to take the booster shot. In addition to the information listed below, the county has a designated website for residents to get more information and to schedule a shot. The website, essexcovid.org, can connect users to appointments to first, second, or booster shots, in addition to Covid testing. The vaccines are available by appointment only. In a press release, Essex County Executive Joseph N. DiVincenzo, Jr., said that “we are committed to making getting a booster shot as easy and efficient as possible.”
