A new coffee spot in Caldwell is taking the name “third space” seriously. GroundHouse at 307 Bloomfield Avenue blends three things: a coffee lounge, a social space, and a wellness club that features a sauna and cold plunge. It comes from the owners of The Compound in Verona. The team tells The Montclair Girl that they want to build community through coffee and intentional energy, and will open on March 20th, 2026. About GroundHouse
GroundHouse was created by Danielle and Brian Kermizian, who also own The Compound Coffee Co. at 271 Grove Avenue in Verona. Danielle told The Montclair Girl they want to make GroundHouse a popular third place, “bringing people together through thoughtful design, quality coffee, and a sense of balance. It’s a place where people come to gather, reset, create, and feel grounded through a thoughtful blend of social interaction, creative exchange, and personal rejuvenation.” A third space is known as a social space outside of home (your first place) and work or school (your second place).

The spacious lounge includes a coffee and smoothie bar with ample seating, allowing for a solo coffee moment or sharing a beverage with a group of friends. The menu will feature The Compound Coffee Co. organic coffee and espresso roasts, plus some favorites from the coffee shop’s menu. There will also be a selection of signature smoothies, a wide selection of waters and bottled beverages, and some pastries and light bites.

The private wellness club, The Well, can be found in a separate area of GroundHouse. It’s where guests can enjoy a communal, traditional dry Finnish sauna or the single-barrel cold plunge. There is also a private wellness lounge area, complimentary towels + filtered water, and private shower and changing suites. Members will be able to access the private wellness club by booking through an app. The owners tell MG there will also be limited availability each month for reserving the wellness lounge for small groups.

GroundHouse will also double as an event space outside of normal business hours, according to the owners. “We are a space for people to escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life while being able to maintain productivity, a place to be social or to be selfish to your own personal needs, and a place to connect to yourself or to gather as a group,” Danielle shared.

About The Compound
The Compound was Danielle and Brian’s first venture into creating a blended space. In 2020, they opened their fitness studio at The Compound, then expanded the space by adding Compound Coffee Co. in 2021. The studio holds private training programs and group classes focusing on strength workouts with proper stretching, rest, and recovery. The coffee shop serves fresh-brewed drinks, light bites, and has a library lounge and outdoor space for guests to enjoy before or after a workout.

“Throughout the years, coffee became more than a drink to us, wellness became much more than a trend, and spaces became more than four walls; they became places where people could truly connect, and communities could be born,” Danielle shared.
